Man, I think we made this joke in a feature a while ago, but taking reading material and turning it into a video game and then turning it back into reading material is something that strikes us as pretty crazy, even in the wild cross-media west of comics. Granted, this doesn't approach "Dante's Inferno" levels of WTF, but DC announced today that they'll be making a weekly Wildstorm comic called "DC Universe: Legends," out of their upcoming MMORPG video game, "DC Universe Online," which naturally, is based on their comics.

First: A weekly book? I liked "52" and "Wednesday Comics" and all, but I have no idea why something like this would need to come out every 7 days. There aren't too many details about the story, or the creative team, or any art in the Dan DiDio interview at IGN, but he does explain that they're going to "set up the conceit of the universe, how it works and what the rules are. We'll also be trying to work gaming tips and secrets into the body of the book as we move along in the series."

If this were actually some sort of meta-fictional commentary a la Yahtzee Croshaw's upcoming Mogworld that would be entertaining -- if unlikely -- but I can imagine some interest from gamers in a comic that essentially functions as an elaborate, illustrated hint book, revealing tips and easter eggs on a regular basis. That's not exactly what I think of when I typically think of a "comic book," but you know. Different strokes.
