Gilbert Hernandez And Other Indie Greats Cover ‘All Time Comics: Bullwhip’ For Fantagraphics
Who is Bullwhip? We don't really know yet. According to the official synopsis of All Time Comics: Bullwhip #1, she's "the mysterious crimefighter sworn to keep Metro City's streets safe from villainy and violence." Which could be just about any superhero. But she's not part of just any superhero line. All Time Comics is the new superhero imprint from OG indie press Fantagraphics Books, spearheaded by brothers Josh and Samuel Bayer. Josh Bayer is writing Bullwhip, with Ben Marra penciling and comics veteran Al Milgrom inking.
Bullwhip's design clearly draws on fetish imagery, with the shiny black costume, thigh high boots, and of course the whip. There's something self-conscious, perhaps even satirical, about the use of sexuality here, but we won't know exactly what the goal is or how successfully it's achieved until the book is actually out. One of her villains is called the Misogynist, so that's bound to be interesting.
Bullwhip #1 is out March 15. It features a cover by Gilbert Hernandez, which we're revealing exclusively above. Also included are covers by Das Pastoras and Tony Millionaire, as well as a pin-up by Shaky Kane.
Here's the official word from Fantagraphics:
Behold Bullwhip: the mysterious crimefighter sworn to keep Metro City's streets safe from villainy and violence! Writer Josh Bayer, acclaimed artist Ben Marra (TERROR ASSAULTER: O.M.W.O.T.), and Firestorm co-creator Al Milgrom team up for the startling story "Web of Oblivion!", which pits our hero against The Misogynist, Raingod, and the Time Vampire. Don't miss the most unexpected, fanta*tastic superhero comics of the year.
