‘Gotham’ Season 2 Casts James Frain as Big Bad Brother to DC’s Tigress
FOX’s Gotham has thus far focused on elevating its existing cast to Season 2 regulars, but with Jada Pinkett’s Fish Mooney out of the picture, Batman’s hometown needs a new villain, or two. Enter the ubiquitous James Frain as both savior and big bad to Gotham Season 2, as well as the brother of DC villain Tigress.
Per Deadline, True Detective and Orphan Black star Frain will enter Gotham Season 2 in the series regular role of billionaire industrialist Theo Galavan, a “savior the city has been waiting for,” described as sexy, heroic and devoted to his as-yet-uncast sister Tabitha. Galavan’s altruism hides a centuries-old vendetta, one that he and Tabitha use to take chaos and violence to a new level in Gotham, aiming to create new villains and destroy others.
We don’t yet know who will take the role of Tabitha, we at least know the character has a DC future as the villainous Tigress, albeit it not in any of the comic identities. Frain’s regular role also joins that of elevated regulars from Chris Chalk’s Lucius Fox, Nicholas D’Agosto’s Harvey Dent, and Morena Baccarin’s Dr. Leslie Thompkins.
Elsewhere, we know of Gotham Season 2 that producers will to incorporate such Bat-baddies as Clayface, the Mad Hatter, Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Tommy Elliot, and potentially even the Court of Owls, while early episodes will serve as a “pre-embryonic” (sigh) origin story for the Joker. Season 2 will also feature Bruce crafting his more public billionaire persona for use later in his Bat-career, while still continually investigating his parents’ murder.
Gotham Season 2 will return on Mondays this fall, and presumably have more to say at Comic-Con 2015, but does Frain make a strong enough villain to rival Fish Mooney?
