The Humble Bundle continues to be one of the best values in comic books, and as you might expect, this week they've turned their attention to the morespoooooky side of things. And by that, I mainly mean comics where Pinocchio uses his endless wooden nose to stab vampires.

In addition to several books without pictures -- which I find strange and frightening -- the current Horror Book bundle added a bunch of horror comics today, including The Mocking Dead by Fred Van Lente and Max Dunbar, a volume of Valiant's Shadowman by Peter Milligan and Roberto de la Torre, the first omnibus of Dark Horse's Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics, the first two issues of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla's Afterlife With Archie, and more.

While there's a ton of great stuff in there, the standout for me is the complete collection of Top Shelf's Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer from the team of Van Jensen and Dusty Higgins. Superhero fans may already be familiar with Jensen from his work on Green Lantern Corps, but Pinocchio, which kicked off in 2009, is my favorite thing that he's written. It's one of those comics where you think you have the entire premise just from the title, and while the idea of lying to create an endless supply of nasal stakes is certainly the premise, the execution goes a lot deeper and ends up being the best possible treatment of that high concept. It collects four volumes of the series and it's downloadable in multiple formats if you pay more than the average (currently around $7), and if you're curious for more information, there's a full review here.

Also of note in the sale: Locke & Key v.1, the first volume of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's popular and critically acclaimed IDW Publishing series.I haven't read it, but I've heard enough good things that I'm more than willing to check it out. It's in the "Pay more than $15" section alongside Afterlife With Archie #1 and 2.

Here's the breakdown of the comics you can get on the Bundle today:

Pay What You Want:

  • The Mocking Dead v.1
  • The Last Zombie: Zomnibus
  • Houses of the Holy
  • Shadowman v.4

Pay More Than The Average:

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus v.1
  • Pinocchio, Vampire Slayer: The Complete Edition
  • Knights of Sidonia v.1 - 3
  • Clive Barker's Hellraiser: The Dark Watch v.1 - 2

Pay More Than $15:

  • Afterlife With Archie #1 and 2
  • Locke & Key v.1

In other words, you can get all that for $15 bucks, plus a bunch of non-comic books (including a guide to horror movies from 1985 to 2005) too, all while benefitting RAINN( Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network). It's a pretty worthwhile way to spend your Halloween.
