ResurrXion reveal week continues with the news that Jean Greythe first solo comic for the teenage X-Man once known as Marvel Girl, will come to us next spring from the creative team of writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Victor Ibañez.

This is of course the Jean Grey who traveled from the past in Brian Michael Bendis's All-New X-Men. Hopeless is the writer on the second run of All-New X-Men, but Jean's not on that team (although she's rejoining when it becomes X-Men Blue). Hopeless does have experience with the teenage Jean Grey, however, as the writer of X-Men: Season One.

Victor Ibañez has worked on plenty of books for Marvel, but he's perhaps best known by X-Men fans as the first artist on the Storm solo title with Greg Pak.

The plot of Jean Grey involves a premonition about the return of the Phoenix Force, and Jean attempting to gain all the experience she needs to be a better, stronger Jean Grey before it reaches Earth. Speaking to Newsarama, Hopeless had plenty more to say on the subject:

It’s a sort of trials of Hercules story. Jean gets a premonition of sorts. She’s told the Phoenix is back in play and that the Earth is doomed unless Jean Grey can step up. Unfortunately, the Jean Grey we have is a wildly unprepared teenager. Our Jean needs to level up in a hurry. She needs to step into those huge shoes and become the full grown badass we all know she will eventually. So… she straps in and heads out to get some life experience.

We also chose a premise that allows us to take advantage of the whole Marvel Universe. Jean will be bouncing all over the place, learning from and battling our favorite heroes and villains. Fans can expect lots of guest stars and crazy locales. And anyone who doesn’t think Boom Boom and Domino will make appearances hasn’t been paying attention.

Jean Grey #1 will arrive in Spring 2017, alongside X-Men Blue, X-Men Gold, Generation X, and Iceman.
