Listen: I'm not saying that you have to buy the entire staff of ComicsAlliance one of Mezco's new Dark Knight Returns action figures, but I am saying that it's basically the least you could do after all that we've done for you.

The new 1/12 scale action figure is available for pre-order today (and expected to ship in January), and as you can tell from the photo above, it's pretty awesome. Standing 6.75" tall and boasting 30 points of articulation, four sets of interchangeable fists (including two "batarang fists," a grappling hook and rope, a grappling hook pistol, an interchangeable boot (in case the first one gets worn out from stomping crooks, I imagine), interchangeable but equally grumpy heads, and cloth costume that actually looks pretty awesome. The price: $65.

The figure is, of course, based on Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley's classic The Dark Knight Returns -- specifically, the third issue of the miniseries, "Hunt The Dark Knight," which climaxes with Batman's final battle against the Joker and contains what is quite possibly the single best moment of the entire story:

The Dark Knight Returns, DC Comics

The costume, alternate foot and grappling pistol are all from that sequence of the story, although it's worth noting that the Batarang fists are lifted from earlier in the first chapter, and the grappling hook and rope from the second.

Uh, you know, just in case you were wondering.

All in all, it looks like a pretty fantastic figure, and I'm hoping that we'll get a Carrie Kelly to go along with it. If you want to grab it for yourself (or your favorite Batmanologist), The Dark Knight Batman figure is available for preorder now.
