Contrarians and irony-lovers aside, ask any Spider-Man fan their thoughts on the Scarlet Spider -- the unofficial poster boy of arguably one of the worst storyarcs in Spider-Man continuity, "The Clone Saga" -- and chances are you'll be covered in venom spit ("Venom Spit" is ™ and © Alan Moore). However, thanks to the folks at Activision/Beenox, ol' Ben Reilly is getting a second chance to make a good first impression in "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions."

As we pointed out a few weeks back, the Scarlet Spider will indeed be a downloadable/achievement-based skin in the highly anticipated game, and while that news may have caused a wave of fanboy groans, if we've learned anything from what we've seen of "Shattered Dimensions," it's that any version of Spider-Man can be cool. But by all means, don't take our word for it (after all, we're only professional bloggers over here, what do we know?), check out the latest clip (via Marvel.com) from the game's producers, featuring the Spider Clone wrecking shop in what appears to be the Classic Spider-Man dimension.Just to remind all you button-mashers, "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" is set to hit stores on September 7 for all major consoles and the Nintendo DS, and depending on where you pre-order the game, you'll get a free access code for one of several playable skins.

Meanwhile, we continue to wait with baited breath on confirmation to the rumors that Peter Porker: Spider-Ham will be a playable character in the game...
