Death Of X

Since the Marvel Universe jumped eight months ahead following the conclusion of Secret Wars, the biggest mystery left unanswered has centered on the relationship between the X-Men and the Inhumans; specifically regarding the toxic Terrigen Cloud killing mutants around the world. This week, we got our first look at the events that sparked the conflict that will eventually lead to the disappearance or death of Cyclops, with a look at the first mutant to fall to M-Pox in Jeff Lemire, Charles Soule, Aaron Kuder and Morry Hollowell's Death of X #1.

Since the announcement of the Death of X crossover event between the X-Men and the Inhumans, fans of the Marvel's merry mutants have been worried that the end may be nigh for the Children of the Atom. These worries certainly weren't abated when Marvel released the Marvel NOW Previews book, which contained no mention of the ongoing X-Men titles continuing into October. At a panel on Thursday during San Diego Comic Con, Marvel editors and creators spoke about the tease of what Death of X might mean for the franchise, but several of the ongoing titles such as Uncanny, All-New and Extraordinary X-Men were confirmed to be continuing. The big news, however, is that Laura Kinney AKA Wolverine will be following in her mentor's bloody footsteps in a sequel to Mark Millar and John Romita Jr's "Enemy of the State."

San Diego Comic Con is without a doubt the biggest event on the industry's calendar, and people will be flying from around the world to attend panels, watch trailers, meet creators, and make friends. This year's event is bigger than ever, with so much going on every single day that it can be difficult to sift through all that information and decide how to spend your time. Yesterday we reported on the leaking of Marvel Comics' Marvel Previews free magazine, unveiling their entire post-Civil War II line-up including comics such as The Unstoppable Wasp, Solo, Foolkiller and Prowler. Today, the magazine has officially been released via comic stores and online, confirming even more titles and creative teams, including a Kate Bishop Hawkeye book and the much awaited Gamora solo title from Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman.

When Marvel Comics resumed normal publishing with the All-New, All-Different initiative in the wake of Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribic's Secret Wars, the timeline had jumped eight months ahead to a world where the Terrigen Bomb had made Inhumans more prominent than ever, but had begun killing off mutants, forcing the X-Men to retreat to Limbo. We knew something went down between the mutants and the Inhumans, and we know that Cyclops did something that took him off the board, but we don't yet know the full details of what happened in that eight month gap. That's about to change as this October Extraordinary X-Men writer Jeff Lemire and Uncanny Inhumans writer Charles Soule team up to tell that story in Death of X.

Marvel Comics does love sending out teasers with no additional information. This weekend the publisher released its latest, which promises the "Death of X" this fall. Without any context, that leaves us to speculate wildly on what this means for the X-Men, and who it might be that meets their untimely death.
