Ted Turner's mulletted champion of the environment is set to resume taking out looters and polluters on Cartoon Network in a full-fledged live action feature. That's right, Captain Planet and the Planeteers are coming back, baby! According to an official press release, CN has signed with producer Don Murphy and partner Susan Montford's Angry Filmworks (Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Real Steel, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) to take the good captain and his international team of five blinged out teens to the small screen at an unspecified point in the future.

From the official press release:

"The messages of Captain Planet are even more relevant today," said [Turner's Stuart] Snyder. "We feel this team can bring the world's first eco-hero to life in a powerful motion picture that is not only pertinent but entertaining."

"We are extremely excited about bringing the good Captain back to life," said Murphy. "His adventures are known worldwide and he is recognized across generations. We expect to make a spectacular series of films with the amazing team at Cartoon Network."

Angry Filmworks' project pedigree would usually instill a certain amount of cynicism here at CA, but its brand of big, loud and often silly entertainment actually seems like a logical match for a cartoon series about taking pollution down to zero. Just don't mess with the theme song, dudes. The power is yours!
