Afghan Election Manual Harnesses The Power Of Comics

Five years after their first post-Taliban democratic presidential election, the people of Afghanistan return to the polls today to cast their ballots.

While mainstream news coverage is primarily focused on the excitement of the Afghan populace and the question of whether the United State’s prefered candidate Hamid Karzai will win, Boingboing points out that comics are playing their own role in the outcome.

The civic-minded can check out, “Your Voice. Your Vote. A 25-page manual designed for instructors teaching adult learners about issues, candidates, and appraisal of elected officials’ performance,” here.

The beauty is, even if you can’t read Pashto, the visual narrative is pretty clear. Such is the power of comics.

Democracy looks nice in sequential art, no?
