‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Will Shoot Both Parts Back to Back in 2016

Chris Evans is preparing to head into production Captain America: Civil War this year, but since Marvel has all their films mapped out through Phase 3, he’s also got to start thinking ahead to what’s next — namely, Avengers: Infinity War. That film is going to tie the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe together in truly epic fashion, so epic that they needed to divide the film into two parts, which will apparently shoot back to back.

In a new interview with Esquire, Evans spoke a bit about his upcoming filming schedule. We already knew Captain America: Civil War would begin filming this year, and while Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2 don’t arrive until 2018 and 2019, respectively, those films will begin shooting next year:

You know, you plan around the Marvel responsibilities. You have to. We start [Captain America: Civil War] in a couple weeks, and then that shoots until August or something like that. August or September. Then I’ve got some downtime and I can do with it as I please. I don’t know if I want to take time off or go pursue another directing job or find a movie to act in or, you know, do whatever I’m creatively inclined to pursue or wait, relax, enjoy my life. And then we start the Infinity War, I think, some time in the third quarter. Fall or winter of 2016. That’s going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back to back.

That’s gotta be a really killer schedule, but at least Evans (and some of his co-stars) will get a bit of downtime before they head into what will surely be the biggest Marvel production to date.

Avengers: Infinity War will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, from a script by their Captain America writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Part 1 hits theaters on May 4, 2018, followed by Part 2 on May 3, 2019.
