The next Avengers sequel was announced last year as part of Marvel’s Phase 3, with Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 set to arrive in 2018 followed by Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 in 2019. And with Inhumans off the table, it looks like the second half of Infinity War will now close out the third phase of the MCU. But it’s probably getting a new title pretty soon.

In an interview with Uproxx, Civil War directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that both films in the two-part Avengers sequel will receive new titles. This is what Joe had to say:

The intention is we will change it. We just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.

And that’s probably for the best, since putting the films out in two parts with the Part 1 and Part 2 labels makes it sound like the finale in a YA franchise. It’s a tactic that audiences have quickly grown weary of, as evidenced by the diminishing returns on the final Hunger Games films.

While Russo doesn’t clarify if they plan on keeping Part 1 and Part 2 as part of the title, he does refer to titles in the plural sense, which implies that each film will have a different name — though they will both be Avengers sequels that are directly connected to one another.

So far, we also know that Josh Brolin’s Thanos will have a much larger role to play in the sequel, which will feature the biggest MCU cast yet. The first part hits theaters on May 4, 2018, followed by the second on May 3, 2019.
