You only glimpsed him mid-credits during The Avengers, but that doesn't mean that a lot of work went into the creation of a movie version of Jim Starlin's infamous death-worshipping god, Thanos. How much work, you might ask? Well, here's some concept art to answer that question - and make you wish that you'd seen even more of the big guy on screen. These peeks into the design process come from the Avengers: A Second Screen Experience app and accompany the release of The Avengers on DVD and Blu-ray. Admit it: Those glowing eyes look even more menacing in the otherwise-calm and peaceful lighting of the first picture, don't they?

If all goes as planned over the course of the next several Marvel films -- including the cosmic Guardians of the Galaxy -- fans almost certainly will be seeing more of this craggy, purple face.
