We’ve known for about a month that Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange would be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War, but without much else to go on, the size and scope of Strange’s appearance were left to speculation. Now it appears that a second character from Doctor Strange has found their way into the cast as well, increasing the likelihood that Doctor Strange will stick around for more than just a Wolverine-esque cameo.

In a conversation with ComicBook.com (via Heroic Hollywood), actor Benedict Wong revealed that he would be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War crossover event and expressed excitement at being called up to the superhero A-list:

I’m thrilled I’m going to be in Infinity War. I’m looking forward to, I’ll tell you that one first.

You may remember that Marvel was initially reluctant to add the character of Wong to Doctor Strange for fear of his character being seen as just a manservant. It looks like those fears have been alleviated. In the comic books, Wong is a character with a deep understanding of the mystic arts and a skilled teacher and scholar in his own right. Marvel’s best depictions of the characters have always presented Wong and Strange as partners more than employer and employee; the fact that Wong will appear in Avengers: Infinity War seems to suggest that he will play an important role both in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in Doctor Strange in particular.
