Although the first trailer for Captain America: Civil War showed off Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, there were a few key players missing: Daniel Bruhl’s villainous Baron Zemo, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Martin Freeman’s mysterious new character. We know next to nothing about Freeman’s role in Civil War, aside from hints that it’s government related. But according to Marvel head Kevin Feige, Freeman’s part is much bigger than previously assumed.

Freeman offered a few hints about his role in Civil War earlier this year, revealing that he works with the superheroes and with “certain agencies,” adding that we’d be uncertain of which side he’s really on. That seemed to indicate that his character might be involved with S.H.I.E.L.D. or its former members.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige offered another interesting tidbit about Freeman’s character:

He’s under the cloak of secrecy. There are a lot of amazing actors in this movie. Some of them play larger roles than others.  And in some cases there are some you will meet ever so briefly in this film and then will be expanded upon in future films. He falls into that latter category.

It appears that Freeman’s part will be quite small in Civil War, but we’ll definitely see him in other MCU films, which means his role is rather important to the larger, ongoing narrative. And while he didn’t put in an official appearance in the trailer, we’re pretty sure we spotted him in the background — that could be him on the far right, halfway out of frame:
