Production has officially begun on Marvel’s Doctor Strange, with director Scott Derrickson at the helm and Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme in what promises to be a truly unique and, well, strange offering from the MCU. Marvel has formally announced the start of production and confirmed the central cast, including former Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen, who had previously been in talks for a role.

Marvel sent out an official press release, confirming the full cast of Doctor Strange as production has commenced in London. Joining Cumberbatch are Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Michael Stuhlbarg as Dr. Nicodemus West, Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One, and Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen in mystery roles — though rumors have suggested McAdams may very well be playing Night Nurse.

There’s no mention of actor and martial arts pro Scott Adkins, whose casting was reported late last week, promising some very cool action sequences.

In addition to London, the film will also shoot in New York, Hong Kong and Kathmandu, Nepal. Director Scott Derrickson is best known for films like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Sinister, and is working from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts.

Unfortunately, the press release doesn’t provide much else in the way of details, giving us just this small, vague synopsis:

“Doctor Strange” follows the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.

“Doctor Strange” is the latest film in Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase 3’s goal—over the course of four years and nine films—is to introduce audiences to new heroes and continue the adventures of fan favorites.

Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016.
