The first season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones absolutely demanded women’s perspective behind the camera, and Season 2 is very much upping the ante. Before production commences on a second run of Krysten Ritter’s breakout Defender, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg confirms all thirteen Jessica Jones Season 2 episodes will feature women directing.

Rosenberg made the announcement during a Transform Hollywood panel, albeit without specifying which, or how many different female directors would helm Jessica Jones Season 2. Production is expected to begin immediately after The Defenders, while Rosenberg last confirmed Season 2 staff at least halfway through the writing process.

For reference, the first season of Jessica Jones featured nine separate directors; three of them women. S. J. Clarkson directed inaugural two episodes “AKA Ladies Night” and “AKA Crush Syndrome,” while Rosemary Rodriguez directed “AKA 1,000 Cuts,” and Uta Briesewitz helmed “AKA I’ve Got the Blues.”

Elsewhere of Jessica Jones Season 2, we know the halfway-written season will likely shoot back-to-back with The Defenders, debuting no earlier than 2018. Rosenberg has also previously spoken to the possibility of featuring multiple villains, to fill the void left by David Tennant’s Kilgrave. It was also announced that The Returned, True Blood and Supernatural alum Raelle Tucker had joined Jessica Jones for Season 2, writing to fill the void left by former executive producer Liz Friedman.

We’ll see Jessica Jones herself back in action for The Defenders later this year, but what else might Season 2 do to surpass the first run?
