Late last week, surprising rumors emerged that Marvel would develop an Agents of SHIELD. spinoff for ABC, the focus of which would become clear by Season 2's end. Now, another report has arrived claiming 12 Years A Slave writer John Ridley has partnered with Marvel to develop another ABC series, but is it the same potential spinoff?

According to Entertainment Weekly, ABC American Crime scribe Ridley has partnered with Marvel for a deal that “involves reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property for ABC.” It seems more likely that Ridley has joined the spinoff effort, rather than added another series to Marvel’s existing stable of Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Daredevil, AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, but neither ABC nor Marvel would comment on the matter yet.

Should the spinoff turn out to be the case, we’d initially heard that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. EP Jeffrey Bell and series writer Paul Zbyszewski were spearheading the project for the fall, without the aid of a backdoor pilot. Speculation has run the gamut from Secret Warriors to Avengers Academy, Inhumans, Deathlok and more, though again, it isn’t clear which existing character Ridley would work with, nor how it would fit into the current crop of shows.

We’ll keep an eye on this one for now, but which character from the MCU most deserves their own TV series under John Ridley?
