By now fans have seen a pretty robust slate of "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" footage from its principle current-gen consoles the Nintendo Wii, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. Aside from three stills in a recent issue of Nintendo Power, however, fans had yet to get a clear look at the game's more mobile counterpart on the Nintendo DS handheld. Joystiq's got the hookup, along with a positive review of the title despite the reveal that the game features only three of its counterpart's four dimensions.In our recent interview with game writer and longtime Marvel scribe Dan Slott, we found out that the game would have a slightly different story with some different villains. Joystiq's preview solidifies that info with a peek at Spider-Man punching out a few familiar (and some new) baddies in his Amazing, Noir and 2099 universes.

As a fan of handheld games, Joystiq's insights are pretty encouraging even if they're realistic about its graphical limitations. What's nicest to see for hardcore Spider-Fans, perhaps, is that the title acts independently enough of its more high-powered counterpart to make it worth a purchase come September 7. Now if only it had followed the lead of "Batman: The Brave and the Bold The Videogame" and included some Wii/DS interconnectivity features...
