We've known that James Spader will star as the titular evil Tony Stark-created artificial intelligence of Avengers: Age of Ultron for months, but what we didn't know is that the evil robot's son would also be joining the fray. That's right, The Vision is set to join the film, which begins production next month, as played by actor Paul Bettany -- AKA The voice of Jarvis in the Iron Man films.

Many fans (myself included) speculated that Tony Stark's AI personal assistant would lose its cool and become Ultron -- much as Hank Pym's initially friendly robot went rogue in the Marvel Comics universe -- but it seems likely that the voice of Jarvis may instead morph into the Vision, Ultron's first "son" from the comics. Comics Vision also had a romance with Scarlet Witch, who is appearing in Age of Ultron as played by actress Elizabeth Olsen.

Depending on how the Ant-Man movie shakes out, we're probably going to have to draw you a robot family before long. Just as Ultron and The Vision gained self-awareness, so too does Marvel's movie continuity seem to be taking on a life of its own.

Bettany's casting news comes via a Daily Mail rumor, which was confirmed by Variety. Neither source has info info regarding the nature of the cinematic version of The Vision, specifically if Bettany will appear on camera as a crying android dressed in red, green and yellow. After all, Jarvis could just be pulling a "This is me now!" and be forcing his dad to call him a cool new nickname. In any case, Marvel should probably prepare to sell a bunch more copies of Avengers AI, where the character is currently doing a lot less crying and a lot more smashing.

Avengers: Age of Ultron arrives in theaters on May 1, 2015.
