Supergirl snuck in a surprise announcement with the recent press release confirming the debut of DC villain “Cyborg Superman,” though the text was less than clear on who might be underneath (or woven around) said tech. We’ve had some theories, but if anyone was expecting a certain Super face from the past, we can apparently rule that one out.

You’re warned of possible Supergirl spoilers for November 21 outing “The Darkest Place” from here on out, but if perhaps you thought a Cyborg Superman meant that Tyler Hoechlin would be back in the boots (albeit missing 3/4 of that gorgeous face), Season 2 is still keeping the genuine Kal-El to the first two episodes. As Andrew Kreisberg put it bluntly to TVLine, “Cyborg Superman is not [being played by] Tyler Hoechlin.”

Here’s the “Darkest Place” synopsis, for reference:

IT’S SUPERGIRL VS. CYBORG SUPERMAN — While Guardian (Mehcad Brooks) tries to clear his name after being accused of a murder committed by another vigilante, Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) heads out on a solo mission to rescue Mon-El (Chris Wood) who has been captured by CADMUS. While fighting to free Mon-El, Supergirl comes face to face with Cyborg Superman.

That’s all well and good, but – and here’s where that spoiler warning kicks in – our money is still on Cyborg Superman as what’s become of Kara’s adoptive father Jeremiah Danvers, played fellow former Superman Dean Cain. We know Jeremiah’s been a captive experiment of Cadmus for some time, while past years spent with the original Hank Henshaw (David Harewood’s initial role) puts his origin in line with the comics plenty.

There are still other options, but is Supergirl best left with Tyler Hoechlin (and his beautifully intact face) out of the picture for now?
