To say that Deadpool was a box-office hit is slightly understating things, so it’s no surprise that that execs are hoping to get into business with the artist behind the Merc With a Mouth, Rob Liefeld — well, one exec, specifically: Akiva Goldsman. After securing the rights to develop (and possibly direct) an adaptation of Liefeld’s Avengelyne series, Goldsman has acquired rights to another Liefeld property, and this time his plans are a bit more ambitious.

Following the massive success of Deadpool (the movie), you’d think studios would be rushing to get in business with the co-creator of Deadpool (the comic) — seeing as Rob Liefeld has a few other comic-book creations that could make for decent films in the right hands. It seems at least one studio has caught on, as Paramount and Akiva Goldsman are teaming up to produce a film adaptation of Liefeld’s Avengelyne series.

Even movies about toys need writers. That’s why Hasbro, in an effort to compete with Marvel, DC, and every other company out there trying to create an integrated multiproperty cinematic universe has assembled a writer’s room of talent to figure out how to merge their assorted toy brands, including G.I. Joe, M.A.S.K., ROM, Micronauts, and Visionaries, into one streamlined movie continuity. The Hollywood Reporter says the Hasbro writer’s room will meet for the first time on Monday with an impressive roster of talent.
