The 25 Best Superhero Movies of the Last 25 Years

Best Superhero Movies
Marvel/Warner Bros./Sony Pictures

After selecting the best sci-fi movies of the last 25 years and the best comedies of the last 25 years, ScreenCrush decided the only logical way to wrap up the #CountdownToUltron and Avengers 2 was to choose the best superhero movies of the last 25 years as well. Initially, this was just supposed to be a brief essay. But on an innocent field trip to the world’s most advanced genetics lab, this blog post was bitten by a radioactive list and transformed into the gargantuan piece you see before you. On that day, we all learned a valuable lesson: That with great power must come great listicles.

Greatest Best Favorite Avenger Ever: Group H

avengers-group-h

With Avengers: Age of Ultron just around the corner, interest in these heroes has never been greater, so we’ve decided to pit all the official comic book Avengers against each other in a battle for your affections. Who is the greatest, best, favorite Avenger of all time? Only you can decide.

We’ve created voting groups that mix up different eras of Avengers membership. Group H includes a couple of captains, some ex-villains (including a Doom?), a Jack and a knight, and one of Magneto's kids (don't believe the retcons). The top two or three Avengers from each group will go through to the next round, so vote tactically. Or just vote for Carol. We're pretty sure you're going to vote for Carol.

Ron Wimberly’s ‘Blade’ Is The Pitch We Want To See Green-Lit In 2015

Blade00

One of the things I've never been able to understand about comics is why Blade has never been able to hold down an ongoing series. I mean, he the character who provided Marvel with its first-ever big-screen success, but he's a badass who chops up draculas with katanas, and really, that should be the easiest formula to sell to anyone. And yet, it hasn't happened, despite multiple attempts since the first Blade movie became a hit in 1998.

Maybe it's because they haven't given Ron Wimberly a shot yet.

Marvel’s Top Five Horror Heroes

Untitled-1

If there's one thing we've learned from our years on the Internet, it's that there's no aspect of comics that can't be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there's no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we're taking it upon ourselves to compile lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.
This week, we're taking a look at the House of Ideas and the people who dedicate their superheroic careers to battling against the supernatural as we bring you Marvel's Top Five Horror Heroes!

Man At Arms Recreates Blade’s Vampire-Killing Glaive [Video]

Blade's Glaive, by Man At Arms

With the exception of Wesley Snipes, David S. Goyer and Sticky Fingaz from Onyx, I'm willing to bet that I have spent more time thinking about the Blade movie franchise than any man alive. I mean, just that vertical suplex at the end of Blade II alone has taken up a considerable percentage of my thoughts over the past 12 years. And yet, it never occurred to me to request that Man At Arms, the series of videos featuring master swordsmith Tony Swatton re-creating famous pop culture weapons that was last seen building a real-life Pokémon, take a shot at Blade's glaives.

Fortunately for everyone who enjoys seeing fictional weapons stabbing real-life soda bottles, several other people took the initiative on that one, and the result is that the world now has three brand-new razor-sharp vampire killin' weapons. Check out a video to see the process (and some gratuitous stabbing) below!

Guillermo del Toro Creates ‘Treehouse Of Horror’ Couch Gag For ‘The Simpsons’ [Video]

The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror Hellboy

In yet another moment clearly meant to remind you that you are no longer young, The Simpsons is about to air it's 24th "Treehouse of Horror" Halloween special. Any current or lapsed fan of the show is familiar with a few of the traditions that go into the annual episode, including the altered opening and horror-inspired Couch Gag. The theme continues this year, and this time the producers of the show brought on Guillermo del Toro to create the opening. Just under three minutes long, the animation features guest appearances by a few comic characters, as well as a nod to Futurama, and some inspiration from Mad magazine and former Hellboy artist and frequent del Toro collaborator Guy Davis.

Spidey Will Team Up With Marvel’s Horror Heroes In ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ Halloween Special

Spidey Halloween top

If I'm being honest, I think all I've ever wanted out of any Marvel cartoon is for Swamp Thing and Howard The Duck to team up and hang out. And while we are still a long, long way from that ever happening (because that's never happening), we're closer than we've ever been. A few weeks ago, Howard made a brief cameo appearance in an episode of Marvel's Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and now Marvel has announced a special one-hour Halloween episode of Ultimate Spider-Mafor October, featuring Spidey teaming up with Blade, Werewolf by Night, The Living Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster and Man-Thing.
