DC Collectibles Icons Line Adds Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing and More

DC Collectibles
DC Collectibles

The one and only Batgirl of Burnside is getting her own DC Icons action figure, complete with motorcycle and smartphone this November. That's it. That's the news. We can wrap it up. I could talk about the rest of the new DC Icons announced by DC Collectibles today (via IGN), but then I wouldn't be able to get in my car to drive to Los Angeles and grab this figure from the production room while all of the DC Collectibles employees are at Toy Fair this weekend. I consider myself a patient man, but I can't wait until November for this.

Batgirl was just one of six new figures announced for the Icons line, as well as two accessory packs to add even more Easter egg mayhem to these figures. Technically I guess you would count Grail as a seventh figure even though she's part of a two-pack with Darkseid, but you get what I'm saying. Right?

Harley Quinn’s Action Figure Line Gives You More Amanda Connor Toys Than You Could Ever Dream

DC Comics
DC Comics

Have you had your fill of Harley Quinn? Too bad. This train has left the station at warp speed and will continue to run until it reaches the far end of the cosmos, and even alien races are converted to the Church of Quinn. Since spinning off on her own in the rebooted DC Universe, Harley's been an unstoppable juggernaut. Though she's been getting action figures fairly regularly, Harley's never been the star of her own toy line. That ends this October.

DC Collectibles announced the new Harley Quinn toy line ahead of Toy Fair (via Vulture), and gave a glimpse into the first wave of figures you can expect this fall. The line features designs from current Harley Quinn writer and cover artist Amanda Connor, with several of the figures paying tribute to looks Ms. Quinn has donned in her solo series. It's almost like DC is banking on Harley Quinn blowing up even more after her appearance in Suicide Squad this August. I'm not even sure it's possible for the villain-turned-hero-turned-not-quite-so-good-but-also-not-a-bad-person to get more popular, but hey, it's Harley's world, we just live in it.

DC Collectibles is Spoiling Us With Even More Animated Figures For the Next Year

DC Collectibles
DC Collectibles

Though the past few months have been filled with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad collectible news, DC Collectibles hasn't forgotten about one the greatest toy lines it ever developed. Though it's not been without its issues here and there, the Batman: The Animated Series figure line from DC Collectibles has been a hit for both the company and fans. Though most of this year's releases are already on schedule, DC's seen fit to tease a bit of what's to come in late 2016 and early 2017 ahead of Toy Fair.

The reveal comes courtesy of USA Today, where DC Collectibles dished on some brilliant new additions to the expanding line, which will now also include Batman Beyond in the mix alongside B:TAS and The New Batman Adventures. Both Terry and Bruce, along with Ace, will make up the Batman Beyond box set ($50) in January 2017. While that's a long time to wait, it is perfectly timed with a certain writer's birthday, so I tip my hat to DC Collectibles for thinking of me so far in advance.

The Suicide Squad Strikes a Pose for DC Collectibles New Statues

DC Collectibles
DC Collectibles

For the past few months, DC Collectibles has been hinting at a series of statues based on the Suicide Squad coming out later this summer. However, the solicitations from DC Comics' toy and statue department have been absent any actual pictures of the inmates from Belle Reve that sign up for a mission that may very well kill them. With the release of the new trailer however, the floodgates have opened, and DC's finally given the Suicide Squad their due.

Six of the Suicide Squad's members will be getting high-end statues from DC Collectibles, all of which were revealed for the first time by USA Today. All feature actor likenesses and the costumes they don during what I'm assuming is the latter half of the film after all their origins are divulged, they have a big training sequence, and they band together to take on the massive, mysterious threat Amanda Waller throws them up against.

Like a Rainbow in the Dark, DC Collectibles Announces New Batman Figure Set

DC Collectibles
DC Collectibles

One year ago, DC Collectibles opened its "vault" of unproduced prototypes in celebration of hitting a social media milestone. Included therein were figures based on DC Universe Online, statues for Ame-Comi Mary Marvel and a Black Manta bust, among others. Instead of leaving all of these first-party collectibles locked away forever inside the archives, DC Collectibles asked fans to vote for which item they'd like to see finally be produced. Then there was silence... until today when the dull winter sky was broken by a glorious rainbow in the shape of Batman.

Yes, that's right; the Sheldon Moldoff-inspired Rainbow Batmen are coming and there's nothing you can do to stop it now. You had your chance to vote for 3.75" New 52 figures, and you blew it. Unless you voted for these, in which case, congratulations, all of your dreams are coming true in amazing technicolor fashion!

Did you miss out on the DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series Batmobile when it released last fall? Perhaps you didn't have enough money at the time. Maybe you were just waiting for some shelf space to clear up. Or by chance you've just been waiting for it to be repackaged in a deluxe edition with a new paint job and a few figures to make it an even more special collectible. That might seem like a very specific instance, but it's one that is applies quite well to today's announcement from DC Collectibles.

Earth One’s Teen Titans Arrive in Style With Terry Dodson Designer Series Figures [Review]

DC Collectibles Designer Series Terry Dodson Teen Titans

The Earth One OGN initiative at DC Comics offered the chance for new origin stories to be given to characters like Superman and Batman without readers having to worry about any continuity beyond what happened in those pages. In addition to offering modernized takes on familiar faces, it also gave the creative teams a chance to inject new ideas and style into the mix. It's hard to shake-up characters like Batman and Superman too much without going full '90s, but with characters like the Teen Titans, there's a lot more wiggle room. That's where Terry Dodson comes in.

His redesigns were strong enough for DC Collectibles to turn them into action figures for its Designer Series line. Where Greg Capullo's held the fort firmly with his Batman family pieces, Dodson's figures give us a glimpse at the side of the DCU we don't quite often get to enjoy on the merchandise front, and it's a smart, successful inclusion.

Greg Capullo’s Two-Face Figure Finally Rears His Ugly Head, and It’s Awesome [Review]

DC Collectibles Designer Series Greg Capullo Two-Face

It's hard to believe that it's been more than a year since we last saw any figures in the Greg Capullo DC Collectibles Designer Series. DC Collectibles has been busy with a number of Batman-related releases, as well as the Icon series and other artists in the Designer Series line, but after getting three waves in a year, the stark silence on the Capullo figures was a bit disheartening.

Though hardly the first figures produced in-house at DC to replicate the style of an artist currently at the employ of the comic publisher, the Capullo Designer Series featured some bold imaginings that captured the look and feel of the top-selling comic book in DC's stable. There was a strong connection between the figures and book, and it was startling to see just how well DC Collectibles' Jonathan Matthews was able to bring Capullo's linework to life.

DC Collectibles Celebrates The Dark Knight Returns’ Anniversary With New Statues

DC Comics
DC Comics

Next year will be the 30th anniversary of The Dark Knight Returns, which for the three of you who have never heard of it, is considered one the landmark Batman stories of this generation. The story by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley not only shaped the way numerous creators and fans viewed Batman, but also opened a space in comics for more mature tales aimed squarely at the adult audience. There's also that new sequel coming, The Dark Knight III, which actually begins later this month. This time around, Frank Miller will actually be teaming with several other creators, including Andy Kubert and Brian Azzarello, to tell the third installment of the aged Batman's adventures.

To commemorate the anniversary of the seminal tale, as well as the latest chapter in the saga, DC Collectibles will be releasing two new pieces featuring this futuristic Batman. Both new collectibles were sculpted by Alterton, and manage to capture both the gritty intensity of Frank Miller's original design and the cleaner, imposing figure that Andy Kubert's linework provides in the upcoming sequel.
