‘Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.’ Week 6: ‘The Incredible Shrinking Hulks’ [Interview]

Leader top

"The Incredible Shrinking Hulks," the latest episode of Marvel's Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H., had everything you could possibly want: life or death situations, heavy drama, crushing betrayal, humor, redemption, and a very healthy dose of mini golf. It also features the team going up against the Leader after they've been shrunk down to very tiny status, and a huge plot point in the series comes to a head, as Skaar is forced to choose between his past and his present.

Once again we're joined by supervising producer Cort Lane to discuss the latest episode, and this time we have a special guest, as Ben Diskin, who voices Skaar, joins the call to discuss his character's role in the series, and the relationship between Skaar and the Leader going forward.

‘Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.’ Week 5: ‘Savage Land’ [Interview]

Savage Land top

After one week off, Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. returned, and this time the team headed to the Savage Land to take on Sauron. While they're battling dinosaurs and pterodactyls, A-Bomb is resisting Hulk's overprotective ways, Red Hulk takes on a mentor role (no, really), and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. get a new team member: Jack Kirby's Devil Dinosaur.

Once again we talked to supervising producer Cort Lane about the episode, including A-Bomb's development and the decision to give the team a pet dinosaur.

Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. Week 4: All About Ego [Interview]

Hulk Ego top

So far on Hulk And The Agents of S.M.A.S.H., we've seen the team fight a Negative Zone invasion, Hulk busting robots, and god-powerful aliens. But in last weekend's episode, that may have all been topped, as the crew took on Ego The Living Planet. We spoke to series supervising producer Cort Lane again to discuss the what it was like to design a living planet for animation, using villains as metaphors, and what lessons the show can teach kids.

‘Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.’ Week 3: ‘The Collector’ [Interview]

Hulk Spider-Man lede

The latest episode of Marvel's Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. has a lot going on. It features the first (but not last) appearance of guest star Spider-Man, as well as a cameo by the Thing, as Spidey and the Hulk square off against The Collector, who in this instance is the same god-like being he is in the comics but with the added twist of being the personification of every obnoxious fan ever: The Collector kidnaps every hero in the Marvel universe to add to his collection, but leaves Spider-Man and Hulk out, which is about as insulting as you can imagine.

This week, we spoke to supervising producer Cort Lane about Hulk's various relationships with other heroes in the Marvel universe, how often certain villains and heroes will show up, how guest stars are chosen, and the brief (but glorious) appearance of Howard The Duck.

‘Marvel’s Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.’ Week 2: Hulk Busted [Interview]

Hulks vs. Blastaar

Last week we spoke to Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. supervising producer Cort Lane and writer Paul Dini about character development and what to expect in this new series. The latest episode, titled "Hulk Busted," features Iron Man, and is the first guest appearance of another Marvel character in the series. Specifically, it's a character who represents a stark contrast to Hulk. Iron Man is the most popular hero in the animated universe, and the Hulk, even though he has his rage under control, is still an outcast, and there's some very obvious resentment there that makes for an interesting dynamic.

In our continuing interview series with cast and crew, we spoke with Lane again about the relationship between the two heroes, and whether or not there's definite continuity between Agents Of S.M.A.S.H., Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man.

Paul Dini and Cort Lane Talk Character Development, Guest Stars & More In ‘Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.’

Hulk lede 2

As you'd expect, the success of Marvel's film franchises has affected the entire company, across all media, from the Marvel NOW! publishing initiative to next month's Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. debut on ABC. Marvel has also stepped up its animation game, with the popular The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes leading to the launch of Marvel's Avengers Assemble, which airs in the same block as Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man. Now, following the on the heels of those shows as well as the Avengers film -- which many consider to be the best ever portrayal of the Hulk outside of comics -- comes the company's latest animated series: Marvel's Hulk And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. Debuting this past weekend on Disney XD, the new show features Hulk alongside Red Hulk, She-Hulk, A-Bomb and Skaar. The goal of the series, according to Supervising Producer Cort Lane and writer and Creative Consultant Paul Dini, is to blend humor and heart to tell a story that touches several corners of the Marvel Universes but ultimately focuses on the relationships between these five incredibly powerful outcasts, and how they go about trying to find their places in the world while showing everyone that they're heroes.

But what else can we expect from the series? How do you come up with threats big enough for five Hulks? ComicsAlliance will be talking each week to various members of the team, who'll answer all these questions and more. This week, following the "Doorway To Destruction," the two part series debut, I spoke to Lane and Dini about character development, the impressive voice cast, the absence of Bruce Banner, and upcoming guest stars and additions to the team... including Devil Dinosaur.
