When it comes to the holiday gift-giving season, comic book readers are notoriously difficult to shop for. I mean, most of us are down at the shop buying our favorite stuff every single week, so when the time comes for people who like us to get us something we want, well, a lot of times we already have it. That’s why we’re stepping in with a public service, bringing you comics-related items sure to make the season brighter, whether you’re browsing for a gift or just looking for something to drop hints about so that you don’t get stuck with a random assortment of back issues again.
Before we move on with today's suggestion, I want everyone to stop for a moment and consider that we're living in a world where a hip-hop album inspired by a Mega Man / Sonic the Hedgehog crossover is a thing that exists...and it's actually good.
The Mega Man who fights evil robots that all have "Man" in their names has been holding strong in its Archie Comics series for nearly 30 issues, but what about Mega Man X, the slightly different version of the character who fights robot animals?
Don't worry, fans: X is coming to the regular Mega Man series in a series of backups starting next February with issue 34.
Though there's been many incarnations of Mega Man over the years, Capcom's Blue Bomber will always be known for his 8-bit debut. With this in mind, Japanese toymaker Kawada are releasing two Mega Man (or, in this case, "Rockman," as he's known in his country of origin) brick sets that let fans build appropriately blocky versions of their favorite video game hero, plus his robot master foe Cut Man.
As two heroes who live to fight robots built by bald, mustachioed mad scientists, Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man are hardly an odd couple in their respective battles for the fate of their worlds. Sure, they've had some differences in their current "When Worlds Collide" Archie Comics crossover spanning the ongoing Sonic and Mega Man titles, but they've been able to work as a solid team so far. Unfortunately, so have their foes. In this week's Mega Man #26 by Ian Flynn, Tracy Yardley!, Terry Austin, Jack Morelli, Thomas Mason and cover artist Patrick "SPAZ" Spaziante, the blue duo comes face to face with not one, but two Shadow Men to fight. It's just what happens when roboticizers are running wild and Shadow the Hedgehog winds up getting sucked into the fray.
