Were it not for the 3D -- a concept I am yet to be sold on in any medium -- it would appear that Study Group head honcho Zack Soto gazed into the musty abyss that is my head-space and fashioned the new Study Group anthology accordingly. At 96 pages, it contains comics by some of the artists I'm most excited by right now: Connor Willumsen, Sophie Franz, Mia Schwarz, Benjamin Urkowitz, Pete Toms, David King, Julia Gfrorer & Sean T. Collins, and more.
It may be called Study Group, but publisher Zack Soto is ready for Spring Break! Although instead of traveling to Palm Springs to try to get on MTV's The Grind, he's staying in his native Portland, Oregon to raise funds for a slate of new print editions including Farel Dalrymple's It Will All Hurt #2, a square-bound collection of Sam Alden's Haunter, Study Group Magazine #3D and more.
In last week's column I mentioned that I thought traditional print publishers still had the edge over webcomics when it came to being able to distill the best material from a variety of creators.
