Fantastic Five: Best Legacy Heroes

five legacy

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

This video takes a look at the concept of the legacy hero, those who are inspired by another hero to take up their name, costume, or gimmicks, and counts down the five most successful successors.

Civil War Correspondence: Prelude To War

Civil War II is upon us, and all of our favorite Marvel books are going to be subsumed by a conflict that pits hero against hero, sister against brother, and Avenger against Avenger. To keep track of the moral quagmire, we at ComicsAlliance will be following events closely to determine which side is right in this ethically grey debate.

This first month sees the playing field established with two prelude issues and today’s big, life-altering Civil War II #1. New characters are introduced, classic characters die, and lines are drawn in the sand as the principal players take their positions and prepare for war.

Team Iron Man is a Bunch of Jerks But Cosbaby Spider-Man Will Break Your Heart

Hot Toys
Hot Toys

The Cosbaby figures for Captain America: Civil War were revealed a while back, but Hot Toys has a late addition joining the mix. Though mostly every company's early plans for toy tie-ins were absent Spider-Man, a number of company's got the green light to show off the new version of the webhead this past week. That includes Hot Toys, who has a special set of Team Iron Man Cosbaby figures coming that specifically spotlights the new Peter Parker.

While we still have yet to see if Hot Toys will give Spidey his sixth-scale due any time soon, the Cosbaby version is a nice representation of the character. While all the Civil War Cosbaby toys have looked sharp, Spider-Man in particular stands out from the crowd. Part of that has to do with his costume being among the brightest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it's also due to the fact that his concept translates so well to the small body/big head format.

Captain America and Falcon Mix It Up With Iron Man and War Machine in Hot Toys’ New Artist Mix Series

Hot Toys
Hot Toys

Hey it's another comic book movie and that means it's time for even more Artist Mix figures from Hot Toys. The offshoot line kicked off last year with Avengers: Age of Ultron, and has since covered Batman V Superman, but now it's come full circle back to Marvel again with Captain America: Civil War. Of course, that means it's time for another Iron Man and Captain America figure because those are the two guys who do the thing in the movie. Fortunately, there's also going to be a Falcon and a War Machine to balance the scales juuuuuuust a bit. Not too much though. Don't want to take too much of the spotlight away from Iron Man and Cap.

Don Cheadle on War Machine’s Fate in ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Last we saw Rhodey/War Machine in the Captain America: Civil War trailer, he wasn’t looking so hot. It appears as if Winter Soldier shoots him out of the sky and he crashes to Earth. Iron Man takes Rhodey’s mask off and he’s unconscious as Tony cradles him on his lap and covers the damage to his Arc reactor. This has led to a lot of fan theories that Rhodey bites the big one in Captain America: Civil War. Don Cheadle knows of your theories that he dies and he has something to say about them.

20 Great Black Comic Book Characters

Black Comic Featured

It's no secret that white male leads have dominated comic books since --- well forever. In the '60s, Marvel and DC finally started to put a change to that with the addition of super-powered people of color, which led to some of today's biggest names in comics. But it still wasn't enough. Eventually the lack of diversity led to the onset of Milestone Media in the '90s, where Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle crafted several intriguing characters. With an increasingly active black nerd, or blerd, community, new black characters are being created every day --- primarily through independent publishers, though Marvel has also kickstarted a focus on one of its most notable black characters --- but more on that later.

To celebrate Black History Month, ComicsAlliance is running down our list of 20 Great Black Comic Book Characters. Our list considers old staples as well as some new favorites, including a certain katana wielding badass, space explorers and of course, plenty of superheroes.

Civil War Figuarts Will Include Black Widow, Agent 13, and the Worst Chris Evans Figure

Tamashii Nations
Tamashii Nations

There's a new Marvel movie on the horizon, and with that will come a wealth of new action figures based on the successful cinematic universe. Tamashii Nations' SH Figuarts line has been home to a number of the Avengers over the years, but the new Captain America: Civil War line will mark the first time we'll be seeing any of the female heroes join the cast. We've gotten a few Captain Americas and Iron Mans, and a Thor, Hulk and Hulkbuster to boot, but so far Tamashii has been a little light on the ladies. Black Widow was actually teased and shown off in prototype form for the Age of Ultron set (as was Hawkeye), but here we are with no Black Widow (or Hawkeye) to show for it.

Hopefully that changes with the upcoming Civil War line, which Tamashii is already hyping to include not just Black Widow, but also Agent 13 (Sharon Carter), as well as Black Panther, Hawkeye, Falcon, Vision, War Machine and Winter Soldier. Yeah, Iron Man and Captain America will be part of the new series, too, but haven't we seen enough of them? Let's celebrate all the these new guys and girls finally joining the fight.
