Chloe Bennet Calls Out Marvel Movies for Ignoring ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. paid the requisite lip service to Captain America: Civil War by last week’s ante-penultimate hour (also unintentionally eulogizing Agent Carter in the process), but series star Chloe Bennet appears to have had enough of the one-way street. “The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all,” Bennet opines in a new interview.
Speaking at Wizard World Des Moines Comic Con (via BleedingCool) the fallen agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. appeared fresh out of f—s when it came to acknowledging that the movies invariably overlook any impact the ABC drama might have on the larger cinematic universe. We’ve heard the Russos speak on multiple occasions to movie scripts finalizing long before Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or other series decide their own plot points, though Bennet called louder than ever to bridge the gulf:
I am kind of, like, ready for Steve Rogers to make an appearance on our show. I’d be ok with that. And like, where’s Romanoff? Where’s the Avengers? Or maybe Robert Downey Jr. as Robert Downey Jr. That would be kinda nice. […]
People who make movies for Marvel, why don’t you acknowledge what happens on our show? Why don’t you guys go ask them that? Cause they don’t seem to care! […]
I would love [crossing over]. The Marvel Cinematic Universe loves to pretend that everything is connected, but then they don’t acknowledge our show at all. So, I would love to do that, but they don’t seem to keen on that idea.
Marvel movies aren’t any more apt to call up even the costumed heroes of Netflix’s Defenders, while Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Season 4 move doesn’t seem like a tremendous vote of confidence in the series’ longevity anyway.
Always an uphill battle for TV superheroes, but is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. better standing on its own?
