Marvel Animation Previews ‘Guardians,’ ‘Ultron Revolution,’ ‘Sinister 6’ and More
If yesterday’s Marvel TV panel closed the gap on Comic-Con 2015’s lack of movies, Marvel’s upcoming animation slate might well pave over it. Preview the animated Guardians of the Galaxy, along with Marvel’s Avengers: Ultron Revolution and Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister 6 by our full panel coverage!
Avengers Assemble has plenty left in its second season before launching the Ultron Revolution, including the return of the Squadron Supreme and the big showdown with Thanos. We also saw a few clips of Ultron Revolution, including the debuts of Ant-Man (in full movie costume), Doctor Strange, and early looks at Black Panther, Captain Marvel, The Vision, Kang, Baron Zemo, and sketches of the Inhumans.
Speaking of Inhumans, Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel will be joining the fray at some point, as Marvel looks to beef up the profile of the Inhumans and their royal family overall. It all dovetails into a major Civil War event, which features heroes and villains alike squaring off.
Clips from the upcoming season included a redesigned Ultron facing off against Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow fighting Kang’s robots from the future, and plenty of good Ant-Man action.
As to Ultimate Spider-Man, Season 3 will conclude with an epic “Contest of Champions” arc, which itself was thought to be a series finale before the Sinister 6 renewal. An insired and lengthy clip saw Iron Man, Hulk and Spider-Man pitted against Molten Man, Kraven the Hunter and Wendigo, all orchestrated by The Collector and his brother the Grand Master. Kraven vs. Hulk isn’t something you’d expect to see onscreen necessarily, but could be one of the more interesting Hulk fights we’ve seen.
Moving into Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. Sinister 6, Doc Ock organizes the villains to finally capitalize on his hatred of Spider-Man, with some exciting guests. Not only will Mark Hamill return as Arnim Zola, but so too will Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. stars Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain de Caestecker bring Jemma Simmons and Leo Fitz to the series!
We got to screen the entirety of the Guardians of the Galaxy pilot next, for which we’ll save most spoilers, but rest assured that the spirit of the movie is intact. Tunes, team dynamics, and some seriously stellar visuals, nailing every detail from Baby Groot to the appearance of Peter Quill’s broker at Knowhere. James Arnold Taylor is a particular highlight as both Yondu and telepathic pooch Cosmo, both weaving in and out of a plot that sees the team investigating a mysterious “Cosmic Seed” and its connection to Quill’s past.
Panelists Stephen Wacker, Eric Radomski and Cort Lane joked that eight episodes into production had left them with some hilarious vocal outtakes, though none they could share with the panel, given their vulgarity.
The fan Q&A saw a tiny Ms. Marvel adored by the crowd to the point of being brought up onstage as a panelist. Asked if she was scared of Ultron in the movie, she gave a cool “nope.”
Finally, Wacker also confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy would take the place of Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. on the production schedule.
Premiering through August and September, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy features Will Friedle as Star-Lord, David Sobolov as Drax, Vanessa Taylor as Gamora, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot and Trevor Devall as Rocket Raccoon, and James Arnold Taylor as both Yondu and Cosmo. So reads the full synopsis:
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy follows the newly-formed team who finds a strange artifact keyed only to the DNA of Peter Quill. Upon opening it, Quill unleashes a treasure map leading to a powerful weapon known as the Cosmic Seed which is capable of giving birth to the next universe. It’s up to the Guardians to find, protect and ultimately destroy the Cosmic Seed in order to keep it out of the hands of those who would abuse its power, from galactic big boss Thanos, to the conniving brothers the Collector and the Grandmaster, to a resurrected Ronan, to the ultimate trickster, Loki, in order to save the universe.
Not Marvel-ous enough? Avengers: Ultron Revolution (Season 3) will see the marquee Avengers going up against the likes of Baron Zemo, the Masters of Evil, the Inhumans, and Kang the Conqueror. New help will come from Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man, and Ms. Marvel, undoubtedly reflecting the upcoming film slate, while the recent press release alludes to the team having “a chance of surviving an all-out Marvel super hero Civil War.” Sound familiar?
As to Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6 the nefarious team joins forces with Doctor Octopus and Hydra, with our core hero enlisting the help of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Venom, the Iron Spider, Miles Morales Spider-Man incarnation, and even the Scarlet Spider.
