PC players got a help test out Gotham City Impostors' madness a few weeks back, and now it's time for wannabe Batpersons and Jokers with an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 to get in on the game's beta action. A new trailer coupled with this weeks' console beta announcement offers what is perhaps the first clear attempt by the game's Batman impostors to justify their approach to fighting crime by violently murdering bad guys. It's a nice touch, even if Bruce Wayne would still totally have a brain aneurysm if he heard the ridiculous game plan.A multiplayer first-person shooter populated by customizable characters allied with Batmanny or Jokerish warring factions, Gotham City Impostors will be available on PC, XBL and PSN starting January 10.

If you don't get selected for the beta, you can always catch up with the game's quasi source material with David Hine, Scott McDaniel and Andy Owens' "Impostor" storyline from Detective Comics #867-870, which was collected in a trade paperback back in August.
