Though we've known Hot Toys was planning on making Ant-Man figures to tie into the upcoming feature film, nobody was expecting the first full reveal to be part of the Artist's Mix line. Based on designs by Japanese artist Touma, the Artist's Mix got its start with Avengers: Age of Ultron. While that series has seen multiple waves already announced, we're probably only going to get this one set of three figures from Ant-Man.

The Artist Mix line is unlike Hot Toys' bread and butter sixth-scale collection, and offers highly stylized interpretations of characters is static poses. While Hot Toys has hinted that other artists might be taking part in the line in the future, so far both Avengers and Ant-Man have been handled by Touma. Where I wasn't particularly crazy about the Avengers designs, I actually dig the Ant-Man figures a little bit more. That's mostly due to the fact that all the faces are hidden by helmets.

Ant-Man and Yellow Jacket will be made available as separate figures or part of a box set. Individually, each figure is just a hair over 5" tall, and will include a bobble head, but no other articulation. You can think of these as slightly more expensive Funko Pop figures, though based on the Ant-Man designs we've seen from the vinyl figure makers, I'd be hard-pressed to tell you which of these two series had more detail.

If you do happen to get the box set, you'll get a third figure in the form of Blackout Ant-Man. Now, we've seen some rumors and reports based on other toys that Blackout Ant-Man isn't just a colorway variant; it's actually a bit of a spoiler for the film. I won't spoil it, but if you want, you could easily find the answer on your own. That said, the figure itself is just a different paint app applied to the existing Ant-Man figure. I actually dig that red and black color scheme, but that's something that's been ingrained in me since I was a kid and those were my school colors. But I mean come on, red and black look super sharp together.

There's no official pricing or release date as of yet, but the Avengers versions did cost $39.99 each. We'll update this as soon as Sideshow Collectibles has more details.

UPDATE: The deluxe set is available for pre-order. You can snag it for $109.99 and it's expected to arrive between August and October this year.
