Keen-eyed Batman fans have suspected The Penguin would be among the rogues seen in Batman: Arkham City since seeing the game's very first teaser trailer, which featured a glimpse at the legendary villain's Iceberg Lounge nightclub. It would seem the Penguin will indeed play a role in the high anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, but not in exactly the same way we've seen him before.

Speaking to The Australian Sunday Herald, Rocksteady Studios Marketing Manager Dax Ginn confirmed that the Penguin will appear in the game, and that the creators of Batman: Arkham City have modified his character to fit in with the generally seedier aesthetic of the Rocksteady Batman titles. The interview was transcribed by a member of the forums at ArkhamCity.co.uk.

"The way that penguin has always been portrayed is as quite an aristocratic, well-spoken gentleman who's got these twisted delusions of grandeur" he says. "So we've made him a really horrible, nasty piece of work - but still with the delusion of grandeur. He dresses well, but in a poor taste, and we've made him this brutish, brutal guy but also key into collection fascination that hes had through out the years.

"Penguin's faction is much more about the collection that he has within his museum of all sorts of things but one of those things he collects is heavily artillery. so when you come up against his thugs in the street they are all going to have seriously heavy weapons and that develops throughout the game as well."

In the same interview, Ginn submits that Arkham City's Catwoman is a combination of Eartha Kitt's 1960s attitude and the look of Adam Hughes' unforgettable Catwoman covers for DC Comics.

Batman: Arkham City goes on sale in October of this year.
