It's been a little while since we've gotten an update on No Reservations/The Layover host Anthony Bourdain's Get Jiro!, the foodie icon's 160-page original graphic novel co-written with Joel Rose, with art by Langdon Foss (Heavy Metal), but it looks Vertigo will finally reveal what the team's cooked up in June. Described by Bourdain as ""...a gourmet slaughter-fest, sort of like 'Fistful of Dollars' meets 'Eat Drink Man Woman'" and "'Yojimbo' meets 'Big Night' and 'Babette's Feast', an ultra-violent slaughter-fest over culinary arcana,'" the title seems like it will embrace the edgier aspects of Bourdain's writing style. Judging from the ultra-detailed preview art Foss has posted at his blog, the title also looks to be a feast for fans of artists like Geof Darrow and Jean Giraud/Moebius.Here's how Vertigo described the book back in October of 2010:

GET JIRO! is a futuristic action thriller that takes America's newfound obsession with exotic cuisine to a manic, violent extreme. It takes place in a world where food and the secrets of how to prepare it are the source of all power leading master chefs to fight over Jiro, a mysterious top-notch sushi chef with ideas of his own.

Vertigo is quick to point out that the release information in its recent blog post at the Graphic Content blog is subject to change, but given how long Get Jiro! has been in the pipeline, odds are decent this book will meet its expected June release date.
