Trailblazer: The Marvel Art of Marie Severin
Marie Severin was a woman in comics in an era when a woman in comics wasn't even considered a thing to be. She got her start as a colorist at EC Comics in 1949, and worked there until they were largely driven out of business by the Comics Code in 1955. Severin wouldn't return to comics until the '60s, where she found a new home at Marvel.
For this tribute gallery, I've focused on her pencilling work at Marvel. As a penciler, she's probably best remembered for working on Dr. Strange in Strange Tales, Incredible Hulk, and Namor the Sub-Mariner, but she drew fill-in issues and covers for many, many books.
Emet Comics Launces ‘Fresh Romance Volume 2′ Via Kickstarter
When Emet Comics absorbed Rosy Press, we knew that would lead to more diverse queer romance comics, and quite possibly more of Fresh Romance, the anthology title that first launched back in 2014. And our dreams have come true, with Emet announcing a new Kickstarter campaign to fund Fresh Romance Volume 2, a collection of all new romance stories to be published as five digital issues as well as a print collection.
Good Thing: Valkyrie Is The Best, In Any Medium
Valkyrie is one of my favorite Marvel characters, even if she's always been a bit of a B-lister. She's a woman warrior who's never afraid to be aggressive and take what's hers. Indeed, it would be easier just to say that's she's never afraid, period. She's a mainstay of my favorite Marvel team, the Defenders, and she's also probably the only Marvel Asgardian who never stood in Thor's shadow.
Ben Sears’ ‘Volcano Trash’ Features High Adventure And Transforming Robots [Preview]
Plus Man is back, and he's in trouble as usual! The young masked hero was previously the star of Ben Sears' Night Air, as well as lots of other appearances in zines and webcomics here and there along the way. And now we're pleased to bring you this preview from Sears' new Double+ Adventure, Volcano Trash.
These stories take place in a futuristic world that's a bit reminiscent of anime, but Ben Sears draws in more of a Hergé-inspired European style. In short, Sears is an American comics creator with decidedly global influences, and that makes his work a lot of fun to read.
Luthor Wants To Be Friends In ‘New Super-Man’ #9 [Exclusive Preview]
Luthor's never met a Superman (or anyone else) that he didn't try to manipulate. So it's not really a surprise when he shows up at the headquarters of the Chinese Justice League in New Super-Man #9, to take Kong on a trip to Metropolis.
Cast Party: Who Should Have Starred In A Golden Age ‘Wonder Woman’ Movie?
I'm doing something a little different with Cast Party for the month of March. It's Women's History Month, and I've decided to take a look at the history of Wonder Woman. As we all know, the first theatrical film is due out later this year. But what if it wasn't her first? What if there had been as many onscreen Wonder Women as Batmen? That's the question I'm exploring, as I imagine movies based on the major eras of Wonder Woman comics, cast with stars from those time periods.
The Holograms And Misfits Travel To Another World In ‘Jem And The Holograms: Infinite’ [ECCC ’17]
Back when the end of Jem and the Holograms was announced, series writer Kelly Thompson promised that something new and very exciting was on the way for everybody's favorite dayglo pop stars. And Friday at Emerald City Comicon we learned just what that is. Launching in June 2017, Jem And The Holograms: Infinite is a bi-weekly event split into two comics, both written by Thompson.

Exciting news from Emerald City Comicon in Seattle, as we learn that Shelly Bond is teaming with IDW for a promising new creator-owned imprint called Black Crown, to launch in October 2017. We don't know any of the books or creators yet, but IDW promises we'll learn all about them at San Diego Comic Con in July.
Jughead’s After More Than Burgers In ‘Jughead: The Hunger’ [Preview]
Writer Frank Tieri and artist Michael Walsh want to show you Archie's pal Jughead as you've never seen him before. He's always been hungry, but in Jughead: The Hunger, he completes his evolution into a voracious werewolf who feeds on human flesh. Considering the covers to this one-shot, it's not really a spoiler to let you in on that. What's more interesting is the identity of the werewolf hunter who shows up to stop him.
