Last week we learned that Jena Malone’s secret role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had been cut from the theatrical release, though her scene (which is presumably brief) will be restored for the Ultimate Edition on Blu-ray and DVD. But you won’t have to wait until that version hits shelves to find out who Malone is playing in Zack Snyder’s superhero epic, since it looks like Warner Bros. has accidentally spilled the beans.

The spoiler popped up on Reddit (via CBR), where a user posted a screenshot of a survey that the studio sent out to fans regarding the film’s marketing, and asks which characters they’d like to see appear more in promotional materials. Yes, it would appear that Jena Malone’s secret role is no longer secret — she’s playing Barbara Gordon, Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, who eventually becomes Batgirl. When Snyder told EW that he had to cut her part from the film, he declined to say who she’s playing, but he did say who she would not be playing:

I think we should keep it private, but it’s nothing that’s been talked about. She’s definitely not Robin or Batgirl. I’m happy to say that.

The earliest rumors had Malone pegged as Carrie Kelley, aka Batman’s new sidekick in the Frank Miller comics from which Snyder took inspiration. But a couple of months ago, a new rumor emerged suggesting that Malone is actually playing Barbara Gordon. Granted, Snyder may have spoken with EW before that rumor surfaced.

But he also says Malone isn’t playing Batgirl specifically, which leaves the door open for her to play Gordon without taking up her superhero identity — at least not in this film.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters on March 25. Malone’s role in the film will be revealed on the Ultimate Edition DVD / Blu-ray sometime later this year.
