What a week! I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to sit back and read some comics. The weekend is finally here, and the world can relax and rest once more — but the comics industry has been busy too, you know, and the last seven days have seen a flurry of comics-based news and announcements fly past at high speed. ComicsAlliance has got your back, though: when it comes to comics, we never slow down, so here’s a look back and just what’s been going on. New comics, new stories, new podcasts, new art being made — it’s all part of the ComicsAlliance Weekender!

It Has To Get Dark Quickly: Mike Kingston On Remastering ‘Headlocked’
Originally released in 2007, the first volume of Headlocked told the story of a college theater major who fell in love with pro wrestling and encountered the darker side of the business, and it immediately gained a following through not just wrestling fans, but pro wrestlers themselves. Now, writer/creator Mike Kingston has launched a Kickstarter to remaster that story for a new version. ComicsAlliance spoke to him about the challenge of selling comics at wrestling shows after being rejected by publishers, the audience that he's been able to build, and the pro wrestlers --- including MVP, Samoa Joe, and the Young Bucks --- who are contributing new stories to the latest volume.

Greg Pak On How To Be Successful At Crowdfunding
To say that Greg Pak has had considerable success using Kickstarter over the past few years is putting it pretty mildly. Thanks to his collaborations with Jonathan Coulton --- a musician so successful that his fans can take over a cruise ship every year for a massive seafaring party --- Pak has been a part of some of the most successful Kickstarter campaigns in history. And now, he's looking to share some tips with the rest of us. With his new project, Kickstarter Secrets, Pak is compiling advice and tips that he's learned from his experiences into a book that will be --- of course --- funded on Kickstarter. To find out more, ComicsAlliance spoke to Pak about why communicating with backers is key, why you should always drink a glass of water, and whether his advice is really applicable to those of us who aren't teaming up with superstar musicians.

But that doesn't mean there wasn't room for a sequel. This week, Cryptozoic has launched another campaign for Ghostbusters II: The Board Game, and reached their initial funding goal of $250,000 in under two hours. To find out more, we spoke to game designer Mataio Wilson about the process of creating the first game, how the second is adding to the formula they've already set, and why the Ghostbusters are really just a very funny D&D party, right down to the dungeons.

As someone who stayed away from manga for far longer than he should have, and ended up missing out on some pretty interesting stuff because of it, I'm always looking to expand my horizons by catching up on interesting classics, and over the past few years, DMP has been happy to provide. Thanks to a series of Kickstarter campaigns based around bringing classic --- but relatively unknown --- Osamu Tezuka stories into print in America, the publisher has been filling up bookshelves with titles like Alabaster and Storm Fairy. Now, though, it's expanding its crowdfunding efforts into a different direction.

There are a lot of things manga does a lot better than the western comics scene. Whether it's stories about cooking, race cars or tennis, manga's genre diversity is through the roof. One area where manga really excels is in its portrayal of beefy dudes, but now the west is finally catching up thanks the recently launched Kickstarter for a zine dedicated to hot hairy men, Burl & Fur.
