Metropolis, Illinois, has a Superman statue. Philadelphia has immortalized Rocky in bronze. Detroit has a much-publicized Robocop statue. Why shouldn't Edmonton be home to a statue of its fictional hero, Wolverine?

About 3,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling for the mayor and city council of Alberta's capital city of Edmonton to put up a life-size statue of the Marvel superhero in City Hall. At least one city councilor says he isn't opposed to the idea.

“I think it’s a great idea, assuming we go about it the right approach, can’t be taxpayer dollars to fund a statue of Wolverine," Councillor Andrew Knack told CTV.

So that removes the possibility of government funding, but Detroit successfully crowdfunded its Robocop statue. Maybe that could work for the group of enthusiastic Albertans who want to see a statue of Wolverine when they go and get new car tags.

The 2001 Origin series by Paul Jenkins and Andy Kubert revealed that the famous comics Canuck was originally from rural Alberta.
