IDW Announces Kirby, Steranko and Gibbons Artists Editions [NYCC 2013]
You may want to sit down for IDW’s New York Comic Con 2013 Artist’s Editions… today the publisher announced that it will be releasing Jack Kirby’s New Gods Artist’s Edition, two Jim Steranko Marvel Artist’s Editions and Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen Artifact Edition.
Jack Kirby’s New Gods Artist’s Edition is the first to debut, with a planned March release. The 12×17″ tome will collect five as-yet-unspecified complete issues of the Fourth World series published by DC Comics.
Steranko’s Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Artist’s Edition is set to follow in May, and will package Steranko’s first 12 stories from Strange Tales #151-162. The original art was created at double the size of the printed comics, meaning this Artist’s Edition will measure a full 15×22″. Steranko Nick Fury and Captain America Artist’s Edition has a to-be-determined release date, and will collect Nick Fury stories from Strange Tales #163-168, plus Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1, 3, and 5, and also Captain America #110-111 and 113. Unlike the other volume, it will measure the usual 12×17″.
Dave Gibbons’ Watchmen Artifact Edition will be the last to debut at some point later in 2014 and focus on his illustrated contributions to the material written by Alan Moore. According to IDW, “This Artist’s Edition will be atypical in that the stories will not be complete, and will be an Artifact Edition, the first released by IDW.” Other than containing select pages rather than the full graphic novel, however, the book will be presented similarly to IDW’s other Artist’s Editions, and measure 12×17″.
