Check your longbox for space because this September Oni Press is going to bring some competition for your back issues of Marvel Comics spinoff of a certain superhero movie starring Robert Townsend with Meteor Men by writer Jeff Parker and artist Sandy Jarrell. Known for their collaboration on DC Comics' Batman '66, the duo have something quite a bit different in mind in this original graphic novel... namely the potential obliteration of the human species by strange visitors from another world (who don't wear red shorts).

From Oni's official announcement:

On a summer night, Alden Baylor sits in a field watching the largest meteor shower in human history. What began as teenage adventure becomes something more--the celestial event brings travelers who will change the world completely, and Alden discovers a connection to one of them. How does a young man who had to grow up fast handle the invasion of his planet? Can Alden keep humanity from oblivion?

Though this preview is essentially unlettered, I already love how the creative team is integrating the alien's seemingly psychic communication with its wider environment. It should be interesting to see what other tricks are up Parker and Jarrell's combined sleeves this September.

You can see the black and white art from five pages of Meteor Men below, although expect to see the final product in full color care of Kevin Volo.
