Miyazaki Roundup: Porco Rosso Sequel and ‘Nausicaa’ Streaming Free Online
If you’re a fan of acclaimed Japanese filmmaker and animator Hayao Miyazaki, then you’ll likely be giddy at the news that the visionary director is considering a sequel to “Porco Rosso,” his 1992 film about a pig-faced fighter pilot during World War I, to say nothing of the awesomeness that is Google Videos’ new free-to-stream version of “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.” In an interview with Cut Magazine (via Slash Film), Miyazaki revealed his plans for “Porco Rosso: The Last Sortie,” a proposed sequel starring Porco as an older man (likely still cursed with his swine visage). The interview was partially translated by Nausicaa.net, with Miyazaki stating: “It should be interesting … it is set for Spanish Civil War.”
The sequel isn’t a done deal yet, so don’t get your hopes up too high. If you’re need of a sudden Miyazaki fix, however, Roger Ebert has posted the entirety of “Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind,” considered to be the film that prompted the formation of Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli (and adapted from the epic manga Miyazaki created himself). Watch it after the jump, and good luck getting through the remainder of your work day!
