Fiona Staples Takes A Swing At The New God Of Thunder For ‘Thor’ #1 Variant Cover

Saga co-creator Fiona Staples is one of the best cover artists in the industry, so it’s no surprise that Marvel should want to borrow some of her magic for their new Thor series, by Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman. And it’s no surprise that the result is awesome, with the new Thor wielding the mighty Mjolnir to smash a frost giant right in his big frosty face.

The new Thor probably doesn’t need much help getting attention — there’s been plenty of talk about a woman taking up both the hammer and the identity of the Asgardian thunder god, and some speculation about just who is under that helm. Whether that attention will translate to enthusiasm is hard to gauge, given that we literally know nothing about the character except that she’s New Thor. But the creative team of Aaron and Dauterman gives us reason to be optimistic, and a new Fiona Staples cover is always cause for excitement.

Thor #1 is available online and in stores in October.
