Spider-Man's deadliest foe will finally join him in the ranks of Sideshow Collectibles' Premium Format Figures. The Green Goblin has been a thorn in Peter Parker's side for decades. Though he's gone through more than a few alterations over the years, none have come quite as close to the menacing majesty of the original purple suit. Sideshow's put its own spin on the classic design, which modernizes the look of the man who for so long was the shadow looming large over Spider-Man's life. He didn't need five other guys to team up with him to be relevant either.

It's been a little while since we've seen a proper Green Goblin in the comics, but when you have a legacy as vast as Norman Osborn's, you don't need to be around all the time. That's always been one of the great things about the versatility of Spider-Man's rogues gallery. Somehow though, it always comes back to the Green Goblin. It makes sense, given just how much he's put Spidey through over the years. In fact, this upcoming statue pays at least a bit of homage to one of comicdom's most memorable fights between the two.

On it's own, the Green Goblin Premium Format Figure is fairly impressive. At 23" and 14" wide, Norman here is definitely getting the most out of his glider and wingspan. The attack pose is perfectly creepy and threatening all at once, and truly conveys a sense of danger for whoever happens to be on the wrong end of the Goblin's wrath.

The facial sculpt is terrific, too, bringing just the right amount of evil and madness one would expect from the character. It's all brought together with an excellent paint app that has one of the most perfect greens we've ever seen used for the character matched with some truly deep and vibrant purples. About the only place I'd make any changes is in the goggles. For a mixed media figure, it would have been cool to have those with actual lenses instead of solid, painted sculpting.

The Green Goblin can also be paired with Sideshow's existing Spider-Man Premium Format Figure to make it look as if both are battling it out above and around that fateful bridge in New York. At least if you get the more familiar red and blue Spider-Man, as his base features explosions caused by pumpkin bombs the Goblin had thrown. The symbiote Spider-Man statue Sideshow has features those explosions, but ditches the bomb remnants in the cloud cluster.

The Green Goblin Premium Format figure is available for pre-order now for $519.99, and is expected to arrive between December 2016 and February 2017.
