Photo Gallery: Those Wonderful Toys Of San Diego Comic-Con 2014

Untitled-2

Even if you're not a toy collector, there's something inescapably cool about the action figures, statues and other gear on display at fan conventions. Whether they're massive and costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars, or little itty bitty things that still cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars, the toys found at San Diego's Comic-Con International serve the dual purpose of advertising new collectibles for those so inclined, but also standing as three-dimensional tributes to the comic book superheroes and other characters upon which Comic-Con and so much of fan culture was built -- in many cases, actually designed by the artists whose work we love so much.

For the non-collector, these are just really exquisite pieces of fan art, especially as seen through the lens of ComicsAlliance's SDCC photographer Pat Loika, who spent a lot of time in the DC Collectibles and Sideshow Collectibles to document what two of the industry's leading toymakers had to show off at the San Diego show.

This week the company revealed a truly massive amount of toys and other products that will be available later this month in San Diego, including a super-posable Harley Quinn action figure in Bruce Timm's Batman: The Animated Series style and a new Wonder Woman statue designed by current series artist Cliff Chiang.

DC Collectibles Solicitations For August 2014

Batman izombie DC Collectibles Solicitations
DC Collectibles

November is going to be a big month for Batman as far as DC Collectibles is concerned. It's fitting, given that this year is the Caped Crusader's 75th anniversary, but it's still worth noting that this may be DC Collectibles' Dark Knight-iest month ever with 16 of its 23 total solicitations representing the Bat family. That's not to say Bats casts too large a shadow over DC and Vertigo's other characters. November will also see the release of new Stargirl and Hawkman figures, a Superman: The Animated Series statue and an an iZombie statue based on Mike Allred's art that will make you wonder why the Vertigo comic-turned-CW TV series hasn't been come back from the dead yet. You can see all of the upcoming items from DCC, after the cut.

DC Collectibles Reveals New ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ Figures: Joker, Robin and Poison Ivy

Batman: The Animated Series Action Figures

As much as I loved the Batman: The Animated Series figures that I had when I was a kid (shout out to Combat Belt Batman), the one thing that always bugged me about them was the lack of articulation. Even if you're really, really into seeing Batman just stiff-legged Yakuza kick the Joker, which I am, five joints do not make for a lot of fun times.

Now, though, my childhood dreams have once again come true with the new DC Collectibles line of B:TAS figures, which are rocking some awesome, DC Universe Classics-esque articulation and beautiful designs by Bruce Timm. Wave 1's Batman and Catwoman have already been announced, but today, we've got a look at the second wave, featuring Robin, The Joker and Poison Ivy, plus painted versions of wave 1's Mr. Freeze and Two-Face.
