Emerald City Comicon And We Love Fine Team-Up For Exclusive Apparel With Marvel, My Little Pony, Adventure Time And More [Fashion]

Untitled-1

Offering a notably comics-specific, distinctly warm and fuzzy vibe that's not to be found at some of the massive and monstrous, comics-suppressing conventions here in the US, Seattle's Emerald City Comicon feels a lot more like comics summer camp than it does a media trade show. Comics professionals from all dimensions of the industry -- creators, publishers, press and beyond -- all look forward to ECCC for the same reasons attendees do; it's a great weekend to meet your readers, meet your favorite authors, and celebrate the medium we all love.

Also, buying cool stuff.

That same summer camp quality that makes ECCC worth attending may also make it worth commemorating, which is why it makes sense that geek fashion haus We Love Fine has made its first ever partnership with a convention with a limited edition line of t-shirts. Featuring Marvel characters like Captain Marvel, Hawkeye and Deadpool as well as other We Love Fine licenses like My Little Pony, Transformers, ElfQuest, Bravest Warriors, Adventure Time and Bee & Puppycat alongside Seattle iconography (very cute), the ECCCxWLF collection will be available exclusively for $25 each at the Seattle show from March 27-30.

You can inspect the designs below. More info at the show's merchandise page.

Everyone’s Favorite Horses Parody ‘Lord Of The Rings’ And ‘Star Trek’ In ‘My Little Pony’ #16 [Preview]

My Little Pony #16, IDW

Since you're reading this on the Internet, I'm going to go ahead and assume that there's a significant chance you've wondered what Star Trek would be like if the Enterprise was crewed by Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle instead of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. Well wonder no longer, friends and neighbors! In this week's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #16, Heather Nuhfer and Amy Mebberson are answering your crossover queries once and for all.

Trapped in a storybook with the actual stories devoured by the magical Bookworm, the Ponies are forced to make up their own stories, and so naturally, they turn to recreating Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. Apparently fanfic is magic, too. Check 'em out below!

The Gang Learns Reading Is Fun And Potentially Life-Threatening In ‘My Little Pony’ #15 [Preview]

My Little Pony #15, IDW

It wasn't that long ago that the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic animated series did an episode all about the joys of reading. It's a good lesson for the kids, but it does raise an interesting question about just where you go with literary themes once that's done -- especially in the MLP comic, which is presumably already being read by children who enjoy, you know, reading. Well, if you're Heather Nuhfer, Amy Mebberson and Heather Breckel, then the answer is simple: You tell a story all about how the joy of reading presents its own life-threatening (but fun and adventurous) dangers!

You ever fight a giant crab for its treasure map with your pirate crew of magical ponies from another realm? If your answer is "no" -- and if it isn't, we envy you greatly -- then IDW's My Little Pony Friendship is Magic #14 is probably fit for your consumption. The concluding chapter in a two-part "X Marks the Spots" adventure, the new issue by Heather Nuhfer, artist Brenda Hickey and colorist Heather Breckel shows what happens when horses hit the high seas full with a taste for treasure and a talent for conferring with crustaceans.

Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate’s Life For ‘My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic’ #13 [Preview]

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic #13, IDW

As you can probably tell from the title, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is pretty heavily based around, well, friendship. Being nice to each other, supporting their fellow ponies through the tough times, sharing common interests and overall kindness. So, you know, what better way to express those ideas of friendship and togetherness than by ditching Ponyville and heading out to the high seas for a life of lawless pillaging under as pirates!

That's the premise of Heather Nuhfer and Brenda Hickey's story in MLP:FiM #13, where everyone's favorite Equestrians join up with Hoofbeard the Pirate for an all-new buccaneer adventure. We only have the first few pages, but from what I've seen so far, I'm fully expecting it to mirror the plot of Assassins Creed IV, right down to someone air-assassinating an ocelot. Check it out below!

Alex de Campi And Carla Speed McNeil Talk ‘My Little Pony: Friends Forever’ [Interview]

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic screenshot

Last week, we brought you the news that IDW was launching My Little Pony: Friends Forever, an all-new, all-pony team-up series kicking off in January. The idea behind the new ongoing title is to pair up two members of the MLP cast for new adventures, and things are starting off in the first issue with a team up that's even more interesting than Pinkie Pie and Applejack having a bake-off: writer Alex de Campi and artist Carla Speed McNeil.

This week, I spoke to de Campi and McNeil to find out more about their approach to the characters, their favorite moments from the show and their ideal plans for Rainbow Dash -- which I can assure you are awesome.

‘My Little Pony Microseries’ #9 Teaches Children A Harsh Lesson About Disappointment

My Little Pony Microseries #9, IDW

I was born just a little too late to be part of that generation that was continually burned by the misleading promises you'd get from the ads in comic books, and to be honest, I've always been a little saddened by that. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I want to be ripped off, but for decades, the disappointment that came from cardboard X-Ray Specs and $2.98 nuclear submarines was an important part of the medium. Also, I've always been curious about the secrets of dynamic tension.

Fortunately for me, I can live out the thrill of disappointment through a purple cartoon dragon that lives in a tree that is also a library with a pony (also purple) in this week's My Little Pony Microseries #9! The story, focusing on Spike and brought to you by Rob Anderson and Agnes Garbowska, finds Twilight Sparkle's #1 assistant attempting to get a pet of his own by sending off for sea monkeys, with hilarity to ensue upon delivery. Check out a preview below!

Crack open your history books and mark it down, everybody: 2013 is the year that the superhero genre finally gave up its stranglehold on the medium of comic books and was replaced by its new successor: Pony Comics.
