The New World Order Arrives in Batman: The Telltale Series’ Third Episode

Telltale Games
Telltale Games

After establishing the tone of the new Batman Universe as it exists in Telltale's Batman: The Telltale Series in the first episode, the adventure has taken an even darker turn leading up to the third installment, "New World Order." Previously, we'd seen Bruce Wayne learn that maybe his parents weren't as beyond reproach as he believed, and learn that the crime families in Gotham were working hand-in-hand with the Waynes for a better future. You don't have to look far to see how well that worked out for everyone involved, particularly when it comes to the Waynes.

The launch trailer for the new chapter --- arriving tomorrow --- keeps the spiral spinning downward for the young Dark Knight, and Batman will have to face off against the Children of Gotham to protect his city. He'll also have to deal with some ramifications from Harvey Dent's mayoral bid... at least what remains of it and Harvey's face anyway.

Hot Toys’ Batman is a Faithful Recreation of a Very Glum Chum [Review]

Hot Toys Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice Batman Figure

I did not particularly care for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. As a film I found it rather lacking, but there were elements that I would agree had some merit. Wonder Woman was cool, the fight choreography was solid, and some of the practical design work was very sharp. One element that I just never got on board with however was the new Bat-suit. I know it was more authentic to the version on the printed page, and wasn't quite as bulk or overly realistic like previous Bat-suits, but it just didn't work for me. It looked like it was cobbled together from duct tape and not befitting a superhero.

With that in mind, it's still possible to appreciate the work that went into creating Batman's new look. That's just as true for the on-screen version as it is the miniaturized action figure versions that have been circulating since the film's release. This month, Hot Toys takes its pass at the Batfleck, and even though I'm still not sold on this particular design, it's arguably the most authentic version of Batman you'll get without stealing one of Ben Affleck's suits.

Cast Party: Who Should Star In A ‘Batman & Dracula: Red Rain’ Movie?

Welcome to Cast Party, the feature that imagines a world with even more live action comic book adaptations than we currently have, and comes up with arguably the best casting suggestions you’re ever going to find for the movies and shows we wish could exist.

With Halloween drawing ever-closer, I really wanted to cast a movie about Dracula. And since I covered Marvel's Dracula last year, I thought it would be fun to do a DC Comics Dracula this time around. That led me to 1991's Batman & Dracula: Red Rain, a well-remembered Elseworlds graphic novel by Doug Moench and Kelley Jones, in which the Caped Crusader fights the Lord of the Vampires, and becomes a vampire himself along the way.

Francesco Francavilla Looks Back On Ten Years In Comics [Interview]

Over the past 10 years, Francesco Francavilla emerged as one of the most unique and prolific artists of this generation, with a slew of credits at almost every major publisher and fans clamoring to see his gorgeous style on their favorite characters. ‘Night Of The Monster Men’ And The Re-Re-Re-Reinvention Of Hugo Strange

Batman: Night of the Monster Men, DC Comics

The Batman books tend to be at their best when they're working with self-contained storylines that focus on a different aspect of the character. That's been especially true with the Rebirth era, where Batman was relaunched with grand, over-the-top superhero action and Detective Comics put the spotlight on the Batman Family operating as a team under Batwoman, and where Nightwing was specifically about distancing Dick Grayson from his mentor --- at least for a while.

With that in mind, it was pretty easy to worry that "Night of the Monster Men," a six-part crossover that ran through all three books, would derail that focus. Instead, it shored everything up, tying those ideas together in a way that strengthened all of it, and managed to pull off one of the best revitalizations for a villain that I've seen in a long time.

Bizarro Back Issues: Literally The Only Time Aquaman Has Ever Had To Deal With A Ghost Ship! (2011)

All New Batman: The Brave and the Bold #8, DC Comics

With the season of spookiness upon us, I thought for sure that the one thing I was guaranteed to get from 75 years of seafaring adventures was a story where Aquaman had to fight a ghost ship. It's one of those things that feels like it has to have happened at some point, but... here we are. As near as I can tell --- and please tell me if I'm wrong about this --- there has never actually been a story where Aquaman took on an undead crew of pirates out for blood and vengeance.

The closest we ever got was a story where he actually teamed up with one instead --- and even that didn't happen until 2011.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Batman? Zack Snyder Wants It to Happen

Warner Bros.
Warner Bros.

Currently, our onscreen Batman is beefed-up, steely-gazed Ben Affleck, but other men have played the caped crusader before, and other men will play him in the future. With the world of DC comics as wild and crazy as it is, there is plenty of opportunity for other characters to take up the black cowl: even Bruce Wayne’s own father, which is something Zack Snyder has had in the back of his mind ever since casting Jeffrey Dean Morgan in Batman v. Sup...
