Plus Man is back, and he's in trouble as usual! The young masked hero was previously the star of Ben Sears' Night Air, as well as lots of other appearances in zines and webcomics here and there along the way. And now we're pleased to bring you this preview from Sears' new Double+ Adventure, Volcano Trash.
These stories take place in a futuristic world that's a bit reminiscent of anime, but Ben Sears draws in more of a Hergé-inspired European style. In short, Sears is an American comics creator with decidedly global influences, and that makes his work a lot of fun to read.
Hot off of Ben Sears' runner-up placement in the Best Cartoonist category of our Best Of lists for 2015, Koyama Press has released a four-page preview of his upcoming book Night Air. Following the adventures of a boy and his robot as they investigate a haunted house looking for treasure, it looks like the perfect showcase for Sears' charming style and intriguing character designs.
The week's over! You did it, and did it in magnificent style. But while you've been off working and living and doing all those things that humans do, what have you missed in the world of comics? With Weekender, ComicsAlliance is here to give you a heads-up on some of the stories that you might have overlooked, and to showcase some great writing on comics for you to enjoy over toasted croque-monsieur this weekend.
Available for free right now is Pressure/Sensitivity, the very cleverly titled inaugural anthology project produced by Wacom. The book is a natural step for Wacom to make, as makers of the tablet technology used by an increasing number of comic book artists to create their work. Because Pressure/Sensitivity: An Awesome Comics Anthology is edited by former ComicsAlliance editor Caleb Goellner (currently Wacom's Social Marketing Specialist), it comes as no surprise that the book is populated by contributors well known to CA readers for their distinctive styles and technical prowess: Ben Sears, Giannis Milonogiannis, Ming Doyle, Meredith Gran & Mike Holmes, and Ulises Farinas & Ryan Hill.
We make a regular practice at ComicsAlliance of spotlighting particular artists or specific bodies of work, but because cartoonists, illustrators and their fans share countless numbers of great images on sites like Flickr, Tumblr, DeviantArt and seemingly infinite art blogs that we’ve created Best Art Ever (This Week), a weekly depository for just some of the pieces of especially compelling artwork that we come across in our regular travels across the Web. Some of it’s new, some of it’s old, some of it’s created by working professionals, some of it’s created by future stars, some of it’s created by talented fans, and some of it’s endearingly silly. All of it’s awesome.
Illustrator and designer Ben Sears comes up with some truly offbeat fanart, mummifying Hellboy, reveling in the Hulk's rainy day woes, and combining Bender and Deadpool to form the word's loudest-mouthed antihero.
