While the the first female-led superhero film to arrive in theaters is still a few years off, the vacuum will be filled this coming Monday in TV land. Yes, Supergirl will soon beat the likes of Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Black Widow and even Jessica Jones to the punch as the first female superhero to get her own live-action starring vehicle this century. DC Comics and Warner Bros. have had some success in the serialized drama arena with Arrow and The Flash, but even from the earliest marketing you could tell Supergirl was carving a different path, and not just because she's on another network. This week we were given an early look at the upcoming pilot for Supergirl, and it's clear the series will be taking a much lighter approach to its hero's journey than the more gritty street-level action of Arrow or even the sci-fi turmoil of The Flash. While that's a fresh approach given the recent climate of superhero fare, the first episode isn't without its flaws. After viewing it, we took part in a conversation with producers Ali Adler, Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg (both also responsible for Arrow and The Flash), as well as the new Supergirl herself, Melissa Benoist, to discuss the show, where it's headed, and the challenges of making a nigh-invulnerable lead vulnerable.

Generally well-received though Supergirl’s widespread pilot has been, CBS sure has taken their sweet time with footage beyond the inaugural episode. Even if we have to wait until November, the latest Supergirl trailer shows off the full extent of Kara’s powers, along with new DC villains the likes of Peter Facinelli’s Maxwell Lord, Reactron and more.

The establishment of CBS’ Supergirl as its own separate DC universe left us curious as to how the super-series might handle design on some of the comics’ more outlandish characters differently than Arrow or The Flash. To wit, we have our first look at Iddo Goldberg as DC super-android Red Tornado, and he’s certainly a vision of … well, something.

Fandom among TV superheroes has ups and downs across both Marvel and DC; the former sharing continuity, but never screentime with its cinematic brethren, while DC’s lot keep explicitly separate from the Batman v. Superman world, and its Justice League. Now, DC’s Diane Nelson opens up as to why Arrow or The Flash will never join the Man of Steel, lest they “hinder the ability” of creatives to tell good stories.

CBS’ Supergirl keeps a loose relationship with core characters of the Superman franchise, and while Lois Lane remains off in the distance, her father and sister have officially arrived. Not only has eternal military thespian Glenn Morshower signed on to the role of General Sam Lane, but so too do we have our first look at Jenna Dewan-Tatum as Lucy.

A short while back, CBS Supergirl made known its intent to feature DC android (as well both hero and villain) Red Tornado, and now the character at last has a face. Well, sort of. Salem star Iddo Goldberg will play the android’s creator T.O. Morrow (yeah, we know), and may also have a hand in playing the super-robot himself.

By now, a good chunk of Supergirl fans have had an opportunity to check out the pilot, though those hungry for new DC details needn’t wait until the October premiere. In addition to a new trailer, CBS’ new series drops intel on possible Arrow and Flash crossovers, an appearance from the big man himself, along with DC figures like Red Tornado, Non and more.

Like The Flash before it, an early leak of Supergirl’s pilot has made new footage and details hard to come by in the months before its October premiere. Now that production has begun beyond the pilot however, CBS teases the future of Supergirl with a new behind-the-scenes look at an impressive visual sequence from episode two.

Those who were fortunate enough to catch the full Supergirl pilot at Comic-Con 2015 (or online anywhere over the past few months) know that the CBS super-drama plays coy with appearances from Superman himself, but even more of the extended family may show up. A new report suggests that Lois Lane’s sister will cause a few headaches for Supergirl, with a surprising connection to one of the main cast.

Supergirl may have debuted to less fanfare than her Comic-Con 2015 brethren, but Kara Zor-El has a world of work ahead of her October premiere. Not only has Twilight alum Peter Facinelli been cast in the role of DC villain Maxwell Lord, but so too will Supergirl find herself contending with the likes of Livewire and Reactron when new series premieres.
