The first season of Marvel's Hulks and the Agents of SMASH has reached the halfway point, and it got there with a big confrontation between Hulk and the Leader. Hulk, with the help of The Thing, heads to the Negative Zone to confront the Leader and save his team, and it all leads to the Hulk realizing how much he's come to value things he previously wanted no part of -- friendships and family.
And now the dynamic of the show has changed. With nowhere else to send him, the Hulks have brought a defeated Leader to be a prisoner in their home, which will make for a very interesting dynamic going forward. We spoke to veteran animation writer Henry Gilroy and supervising producer Cort Lane about their favorite moments in the series so far, what to expect in the second half, and how having the Leader in the Hulk base is kind of like dropping Hannibal Lecter in the middle of a frat house.
Marvel's animated shows are in part a way for the company to reach a wider audience than comics can, and to introduce a whole new generation of kids to the Marvel universe. This is a fact that wasn't lost on Clare Grant when the actress signed on to play Titania inHulk and the Agents of SMASH. A noted comic book fan, Grant got into comics in part because of the '90s X-Men animated series, so it's perfectly understandable why she'd see this as an opportunity to reach a new generation of kids, and help introduce them to the characters she loves.
We spoke to Grant and supervising producer Cort Lane about Titania's future on the show, getting into the Marvel universe at an early age, and playing a female character in a show largely dominated by male Hulks.
Just a few weeks away from the release of his latest movie, Thor made an appearance on Marvel's Hulks And The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H. Any team up of the two creates an interesting dynamic for a few reasons. Aside from being one of the few characters in the Marvel Universe who potentially matches the Hulks in terms of strength, Thor is also, as an Asgardian god, pretty used to fighting with or against beings like the Hulks, not to mention the villains for this episode: the frost giants Laufey and Ymir.
We were again joined on the phone by supervising producer Cort Lane to discuss the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. teaming up with the God of Thunder, designing ice giants, and why Skaar and Thor have a lot in common.
