And our dreams have come true, with Emet announcing a new Kickstarter campaign to fund Fresh Romance Volume 2, a collection of all new romance stories to be published as five digital issues as well as a print collection.

There are a lot of things manga does a lot better than the western comics scene. Whether it's stories about cooking, race cars or tennis, manga's genre diversity is through the roof. One area where manga really excels is in its portrayal of beefy dudes, but now the west is finally catching up thanks the recently launched Kickstarter for a zine dedicated to hot hairy men, Burl & Fur.

What the Future Holds: Exploring Stela’s First Wave of New Digital Comics

stela_featured

Stela is a new smartphone app that offers original, exclusive comics optimized for the phone-reading experience. Chapters release every week, and you can read them all for a flat subscription fee of $5 a month. Reading the comics in Stela is smooth and intuitive. Each chapter is read via a downward scroll, and it totally works. Stela moves beyond Comixology's Guided View technology to offer comics that were born to be read on phones, and the result is extremely effective and, at its best, beautiful. However, there are some things about the app that I don't love.

All I want is to look at a simple list or menu of the titles available, but Stela doesn't want to give me that, just a sliding visual menu along the bottom of the screen. Also when I was reading a comic, I wanted to be reminded of the title, and there seems to be no way to bring that up without exiting the reading experience. But let's take a look at opening wave of comics available so far to help give you a sense of what Stela has to offer.

Irene Koh & Mariko Tamaki on IDW’s ‘Casey & April': Alone in the Desert, Alone in the Car

TMNT_CnA_01-feat

This Wednesday, IDW will put out the first issue of Casey & April: a miniseries that takes April O'Neil and Casey Jones out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' supporting cast, and sends them on a road trip of love. Bringing Mariko Tamaki in to script on a huge, established franchise, and giving Irene Koh a chance to reprise her joyful turn on Batgirl's Secret Origins, makes this book a real prospect for excitement. I spoke to both ladies--alarming them at first with lewdness and high nerdery, but I think they warmed to me eventually. Dig in, and enjoy the exclusive preview afterwards!

Best Art Ever (This Week): New-Look Batgirl Fan Art Edition

batgirl-samandfuzzy

It's always nice to have a good news day in comics -- and DC probably agrees after the rapturous reception to yesterday's announcement of the new direction for Batgirl from the new creative team of Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, Jordie Bellaire, and new discovery Babs Tarr (who we've been telling you about for aaages).

Judging by all the Batgirl fan-art produced since yesterday's announcement, we feel sure there's a big appetite out there for a Batgirl comic deliberately designed to appeal to a female and family audience -- and for Batgirl's smartly designed and stylish new costume. With credit to Batgirl fan ComixBookGurl for her Twitter call-to-action, we collected all the new Batgirl fan art we could find in order to celebrate what may be the best Batgirl... ever?

‘Wolfen Jump’ Webcomics Anthology Hits Indiegogo For Limited Print Edition

Wolfen Jump

What if Shonen Jump starred wolves instead of humans? And what if the manga serial were made principally by a group younger, imaginative and wildly expressive cartoonists from all over the place doing personal rather than more commercial stories? The answer to that question can already be seen at the Wolfen Jump online anthology, but provided helmer Rory Morris can raise the group's goal of $8,000 in the next 25 days, fans could also consume wolf comics aplenty in print.
